Pens recall Steve MacIntrye from the AHL, and not for his goal-scoring

Apr 6, 2012, 6:01 PM EDT

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Steve MacIntyre from the AHL in a move that might just have something to do with Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers (4 p.m. ET, NBCSN).

MacIntyre has no goals, no assists, and one “going bananas” in 22 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

  1. brian32556 - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:04 PM

    Another typical classless Pittsburgh act!

    • crashtheboards55 - Apr 6, 2012 at 7:07 PM

Oh yeah? Glad to see Jody Shelley and Zack Rinaldo are there for the flyers. Shelley still there to meet that incentive in his contract that if he makes it around the ice one time without falling down he gets an ice cream? And what about Rinaldo? He resembles the soccer player Rinaldo with the way he uses his skates to slew foot players. Yep REAL class there. What about the Pert Plus Pu$$y Hartnell? Always classy. Never seen him take any cheap shots or do anything wrong. Probably doesn’t want to mess with Kunitz again. Messed up his complexion last time.

      • crazemastercraze - Apr 6, 2012 at 7:23 PM

the flyers are known to goon it up and cheap shot, ESPECIALLY when they are losing! this is apparent to everyone…… with the exception of the worlds most delusional fans(i.e. flyers fans)

      • sizzle299 - Apr 7, 2012 at 2:52 PM

Get over your Flyer envy!!! The flyers are known for being a tough team and flyers fans are known for being supportive and passionate for them even when they don’t play well….that is a fact.

How much of that translates over to your beloved [for the last 4 years] Penguins? Zero. Your players are cheap and your fans are no-nothing midwest hicks. Your cup means nothing, you didn’t win it. The players who won it can brag about it-do you see them? As far as Philly and Pit fans measuring up? The only way to look at it is through team support and passion for the sport- and your city has had more years of empty games than full ones. Contra, Philly, widely known as the most passionate and supportive hockey town around.

So really, its getting old. Its envy in its purest form. Its sad and I feel bad for you.

    • writeit22 - Apr 6, 2012 at 9:33 PM

Hey Brian32556- maybe not classy- R U worried for the Flyers? Don’t. Pens win. Pens have to go play for the Stanley cup Title- that is the way it is. You know the owner of the Penquins is featured as a tall mammal animal in The Burgh’s zoo? What were U expecting? The Team Players- these are classy fabulous champions. Who do yourespect most? Fluery? Staal? Crosby? Dupris? Malkin? Kunitz? The entire team?

      • brian32556 - Apr 7, 2012 at 3:38 PM

        Let’s Go Rangers!

    • benzoids - Apr 6, 2012 at 9:48 PM

Mario sent his private jet to pick this gentelman up….I wouldn’t say that can be considered a classless act!

      • brian32556 - Apr 7, 2012 at 3:40 PM

“gentleman” (corrected for spelling) now that’s rich!

      • benzoids - Apr 9, 2012 at 8:34 AM

        lmao. My bad! Sorry folks!

    • benzoids - Apr 6, 2012 at 9:54 PM

Classless? Mario sent his private jet for Mr. MacIntrye. First class all the way baby!

  2. philly4lyfe - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:06 PM

He might want to see this first before he gets any ideas.

    • janno88 - Apr 6, 2012 at 9:21 PM

      Or this one?

  3. gallyhatch - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:06 PM

I don’t want to say anything negative about the Penguins, I don’t want to get fined.

MacIntyre is probably being called up to take Letang’s place, I think he’s still injured from the high stick he took to the bicep (oops I mean face) in Boston. ($hit, that’s probably going to be a fine. . . . sorry Mario)

  4. bobhpine - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:11 PM

    Awww you girls sound upset

    • crashtheboards55 - Apr 6, 2012 at 7:11 PM

Yeah they sound really upset. Must be that yeast infection that Laviolette had. It spread to Tortarella and then back to the flyers again.

  5. Stiller43 - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:13 PM

Classless to be prepared for the classless flyers if they chose to fight? Makes sense

  6. bcisleman - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:15 PM

Fun Fact: Trevor Gillies has one goal this season. That’s one more than the latest of the angels Saint Mario has called into his heavenly hockey kingdom.

    • letangusespertplus - Apr 6, 2012 at 8:34 PM

      he does?

      • bcisleman - Apr 7, 2012 at 9:57 AM

        Yes, he does

  7. govtminion - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:17 PM

My bet is it’s a one-game callup, because goons like this really don’t end up doing much for you in the playoffs.

  8. heyzeus143 - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:47 PM

    c’mon flyers fans, let’s rumble :-)

  9. sheckyrimshot - Apr 6, 2012 at 6:57 PM

i wonder if bernard hopkins can skate

  10. matthews4 - Apr 6, 2012 at 7:21 PM

Once again this is why there needs to be some sort of reconstruction of the way discipline is handed out. How many times have the Pens not be fined for things? Now they are being allowed to basically declare war. Good job Shanny keep up the clear bias. If the Bruins did half of this they would be suspended for the playoffs.

    • crashtheboards55 - Apr 6, 2012 at 7:31 PM

Other than the Orpik hit, how did the Penguins “declare war” there General Patton? Orpik’s hit was borderline at best? Never ment to hit his knee. Watch the hit again. Orpik’s knee catches Stepan in the thigh. So since you are an anatomy major the thigh is about the knee. Coming from fan of a team that has Marchand, Chara, Lucic, Paille, and Thornton, you should really think about what you write so that you don’t let everyone know how ridiculous you sound. How many “dirty” hits have the Penguins been assessed this year? Yep the Penguins are the only team that does anything suspect.

    • crashtheboards55 - Apr 6, 2012 at 7:47 PM

I will say this though. Shanahan has no clue what he is doing. Hellen Keller couldn’t have missed half of the dirty and suspendable hits he did this year.

  11. kcredneck - Apr 6, 2012 at 7:30 PM

    crashtheboards55, seriously funnier than hell!!!!!!

  12. malkinrulez - Apr 6, 2012 at 9:26 PM

Being prepared in case Shelley or rinaldo want to act a fool seems pretty smart.

  13. dawglb - Apr 6, 2012 at 9:57 PM

In one week’s time, The NY Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers coaches have questioned Pittsburgh’s methods. If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck,….. It must be a Penguin! Pens are classless. Torts and Lavi are 100% correct!

    • johninpa - Apr 6, 2012 at 10:45 PM

Oh. please. What is it, an NHL conspiracy against any team playing the Pens? Instead of whining, let the coaches make their statements on the ice. Saturday’s game means nothing, so why wouldn’t you make sure you have the personnel to make sure you don’t put your star players at risk? Class isn’t crying to reporters, it’s playing hockey. I’m looking forward to the first round.

    • bobhpine - Apr 6, 2012 at 10:47 PM

Do they get a gold sticker for being classy? This classiness debate is about as wimpy as it gets. These Flyer/Ranger fans must have gotten picked on in drama class in high school.

  14. agc99 - Apr 6, 2012 at 11:27 PM

The Hanson brothers will be the next call ups.

  15. dropthepuckeh - Apr 6, 2012 at 11:32 PM

That would be the same drama class that Crosby excelled at and undoubtedly LePootandPertPlus learned his tactics. It will be delicious on Wed/Thurs to see the panic on their faces when they realize they have to actually stand up for themselves. There seems to be an odd correlation to Montreal with this type of player, yes? Something in the water?

Philly will pummel Pitt next week. I predict Crosby has a “rule” named after him subsequently bc he cries so much, but, Rangers vs. B’s in conference finals should hammer the point home, even for the golden one. Assuming he can actually leave the quiet room after game one of course….

    • bobhpine - Apr 6, 2012 at 11:50 PM

Have you ever actually seen the Flyers win the cup? Not on youtube. Live. Have you?

      …probably not.

    • eyeh8goodell - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:26 AM

I WISH the Pens could get the Rangers in round one. Easy 4 game sweep for the Pens. They OWN the Rangers. And Philly will do what they always do in the playoffs…….lose.

  16. eyeh8goodell - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:24 AM

Laviolette wanted a goon line, he’ll get one. Mybe this time Lvs will know the difference. It’ll be funny watching those “big bad Philly Flyers” mind their P’s and Q’s like it’s Sunday church with Big Mac on the bench watching and waiting.

And define hypocrisy: fans of a team known more for their team’s Broad Street Bullies goonism than the Cups that came with it calling other teams “dirty” or “classless”. You guys DO realize you lead the league is every single penalty category (including misconducts) except one right? Probably not.

  17. phillyphan83 - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:30 AM

wow writeit22,where did u learn English? that was pitiful writing.
let me get this straight… pens have to go play for the cup, that’s how it is huh?
here’s some NHL history for you…Pitt and Phi both came into the league in 1967…Pitt has 6 division championships, Phi has 16…Pitt has 4 conference championships, Phi has 8, Pitt has 3 Stanley cups, Phi has 2.
you seemed like you were talking about recent history too so lets go there…which team most recently played for the cup? Philly, ’09-’10
study up next time u talk sh*t and are proved wrong.

    • eyeh8goodell - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:55 AM

Last time you actually won a Cup was during the Gerald Ford administration. Leave it to a Philthy fan to brag about being runner up. I suppose I can understand the massive jealousy and inferiority complex. Pittsburgh has racked up 6 Super Bowls, 5 World Series Titles, and 3 Cups while you’ve been watching with envy from across the state, Don’t ever try and compare hardware. You’ll lose every time.

      • ml3939 - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:15 PM

Philadelphia has won 17 major (NHL, NFL/AFL, MLB and NBA) championships. 17 > 16. If you didn’t have a Pittsburgh education you may have learned how to count. The Pirates have 7 World Series titles- way to know your teams. Don’t ever try to be smart. You’ll lose every time.

      • eyeh8goodell - Apr 8, 2012 at 4:01 PM

No, it’s 5 World Series titles…..not 7. And LOL at trying to throw an AFL title in there to pad your stats. And as for my Pittsburgh education…….Pittsburgh is the #2 city in America in college degrees per capita. Guess who’s #1? Not Philly.

    • bobhpine - Apr 7, 2012 at 3:33 AM

      haha…played for the cup?

aww that’s cute…in pittsburgh we value winning it…since you’ve never seen that happen I guess you just like to play for the cup…you probably value your participation trophies in gymnastics when you were a confused young boy, don’t you.

  18. rml1234567 - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:40 AM

You have to remember when you are refering to Penguins “fans” that is only a group of about 5,000 people that were loyal to the team when they were going bankrupt. Those 5,000 can’t be identified because there is now a whole city claiming to be one of those 5,000 since Crosby came into the league, and the bandwagon filled back up. If you want to get your point out to a large group of Penguins “fans” please say the penguins bandwagon members. Those people might not admit outloud that they are part of the Penguins bandwagon, but atleast they will know you are talking to them. I live out in western pa before and after Crosby. I know several loyal Penguins fans, but the majority are not. Steelers fans are very loyal..Penguins “fans” may be the biggest joke of a fanbase in the history of hockey. The offical Penguins twitter page wanted to thank the best “fans” in the league today. I think I laughed for a half hour straight. If Mario didn’t save them, and superstars did not fall in their lap they would be playing in Kansas City right now, and there would have only been 5,000 people that cared.

    • bobhpine - Apr 7, 2012 at 3:36 AM

and despite all that, the penguins still win more cups than the flyers…sad for you

  19. phillyphan83 - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:44 AM

Might as well add this in there ’bout head to head?? The Flyers lead the series with a 136–86–30 record.

    • eyeh8goodell - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:59 AM

Awwwww, poor Philly fans are left to compare all the numbers except the ones that really matter. Kiss the rings. Philly will do what Philly always does in the playoffs……..lose.

  20. thetruth71 - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:54 AM

It’s so entertaining to hear NY and Philly fans cry about the Pens!!! You guys are so paranoid and scared it’s hilarious!! And if your coach says its true then carve if in stone because it MUST be true!! Some fans are so pathetic

  21. rml1234567 - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:59 AM

Can I get one Penguins bandwagon member on here to admit the Orpik hit was dirty?

    • eyeh8goodell - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:03 AM

Sure, when your ready to cop to your own players’ dirty hits and acknowledge that the Pens are as “dirty” as every other team in the league. Bandwagon? Haha i’ll bet I was watching (and probably playing too) when you were a little spermy swimming around in your pappy’s nutsack.

      • rml1234567 - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:11 AM

Nice! found one. Only 4,999 to go. Do you know any others? I was speaking specifically about the orpik hit. Are you admitting that it was dirty penguins fan?

    • bcs1283 - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:31 AM

Orpik’s hit was only as dirty as Rupp’s knee to knee hit on Staal earlier this year.

P.S. Kudos for counting all of the Penguins’ 5,000 fans. Did it take you longer to count them or for you to think of an such an original insult?

      • rml1234567 - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:42 AM

Only as dirty as…so is that you admitting it was dirty? Took me only afew seconds to think of such an took me several years to find all the real Penguins fans..I walked around the streets where I lived and took a poll BC and AC.

      • rml1234567 - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:55 AM

Its funny that the thing Penguins bandwagon members don’t seem to understand is that there is a difference between an organization, and a fanbase. Winning the Stanley Cup does not mean you have a good fanbase. I guess they did not read the small print on the back of the bandwagon member card. I used to get free tickets to Penguins games all the time….they were like a bad NBA team…the place was mostly empty everynight.

  22. thetruth71 - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:05 AM

I LOVE how the Pens are in everyone’s heads now! Not only more talented but also now have the mental edge. Can’t wait till the two “winners” raise ANOTHER banner!!

  23. eyeh8goodell - Apr 7, 2012 at 9:50 AM

LOL thanks for all the BB material, Philthy fans. When you guys lose again in the playoffs you can try to comfort yourselves at night with your cheeseball “bandwagon” jabs and Gary Bettman conspiracy theories. Lord knows you don’t have much in the way of hardware to affirm yourselves…….and nor will you in the future.

And then when football season rolls around you can root for the “Dream Team” to win it all and run your mouths leading up to the actual games………just like last year. It’ll probably work out just the same as last year too.

    Kiss the rings.

  24. icelovinbrotha215 - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:21 PM

Haha all the smack talking and none of us have any affect on the game.

  25. bobhpine - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:23 PM

How many have you seen? You must get such satisfaction out of the turn of the century Phillies. Just answer the question, how many championships have you actually witnessed. Something tells me the answer is the 2008 phillies. Which is sad.

  26. bobhpine - Apr 7, 2012 at 1:38 PM

ml3939 are you sure about 7? I know you fancy yourself a sports historian. I suggest you check your facts. If you can. Maybe the dial up in your trailer isn’t working.

  27. phillyphan83 - Apr 7, 2012 at 2:55 PM

bob, what makes you think everyone on here is <25 years old? idiot

  28. phillyphan83 - Apr 7, 2012 at 3:01 PM

and no one was talking about any other sport but hockey but you had to bring those in to make yourselves look better. either way you slice is 17>16. and the pens have won 1 more cup tan the flyers, that’s it. 1. certainly not dominating. my earlier stats prove which team has been the better franchise. and no one, NO ONE, outside Pittsburgh would EVER say that their fanbase is better or stronger than Philly’s. the sh*t you talk about how terrible you think our teams are proves it even more. were “real” fans that stick by our teams no matter how bad they may be that year. your fanbase is a joke.

  29. jaybaileys - Apr 7, 2012 at 3:55 PM

Im a Pens fan and didnt think the Orpik hit was kosher, thought he should have got a game for it. But apparently he got exactly what the GM’s wanted him to. A 5 minute major and game misconduct. There’s another thread on here that explains it, so blame the GM’s not the Pens, other than him for making the hit. I personally can’t wait for this series, think it’s gonna be unreal. Too bad it’s the first round and not the conf. final.

  30. icelovinbrotha215 - Apr 7, 2012 at 12:35 PM

Only the NHL favors a team. The media may favor teams in the MLB, NFL and NBA but not the league. Those leagues favor their stars. Not just one star. The NHL has such a bias towards the Pens that it’s commical.
