Scott Hartnell isn’t scared of the Consol Energy Center

Hartnell

As if having the courage to taunt the one and only Hulk Hogan during yesterday’s Flyers-Penguins game didn’t prove Scott Hartnell wasn’t intimated by the Consol Energy Center, the Philly forward put it into words following Philly’s 6-4 victory.

“This is a much different building than the Igloo,” Hartnell said, as per NHL.com. “You were almost scared coming into the Igloo, people were right on you. And how dumpy the place was, it was tough. I think it’s good we have the confidence to play here. We know in our hearts and our heads we can beat these guys.”

Have to admit I’ve never heard the old Civic Arena called intimidating. Chicago Stadium. Boston Garden. The Spectrum. Those were definitely intimidating. But if Hartnell says the Igloo was intimidating then I’ll take his word for it.

Maybe it has to do with all the new buildings being so similar to each other. It’s really nice, but the Consol Energy Center looks like a lot of rinks around the league. The Igloo did not. (It looked like an igloo.)

Well… they have been very successful there so far. So I see his point.

This is what happens when tickets are so expensive they price out the average Joe! The corporate crowd are casual fans with no passion.
I’ve been to two Penguins games this season once lower bowl one higher.
I was so disappointed in the crowd both times, felt like I was at a country club rather than a hockey game, no energy, what a shame.

The Igloo was TERRIFYING! Helicopters crashing on the ice, mascots being murdered in bathrooms, Jean-Claude Van Damm sneaking into the Penguins net… who wouldn’t be scared of all of that?

nothing like that would ever happen at the consol. hulk hogan wouldnt stand for it!

I can’t tell if he’s being sarcastic or not, does Jason Brough really think that was the real Hulk Hogan?

    • govtminion - Apr 2, 2012 at 11:30 AM

Since a previous article talked about Hartnell taunting a ‘fan dressed as Hulk Hogan’, I’ll call it safe to say that he knows that’s not the real Hulk.

…unless Brough is somehow right, and it really WAS Hulk, which would make it an interesting fight between him and Hartnell actually.

      It wasn’t? My mistake.
But that was definitely Ron Francis behind him in the Whalers jersey, right?

“Flyers announce Danny Briere is out indefinitely with an upper-back contusion.”

I almost hope we’re losing in the 3rd period on Saturday so we can send Shelley and Renaldo out against Crosby and malkin.

Except they won’t be out on the ice if the game is in hand like that… as Briere probably shouldn’t have been.

I’ve heard Flyers fans say, that it was a cheap move because the game was out of reach so it didn’t make sense for Vitale and Company to be out there, but is the logic not the same for Laviolette and Briere then? “hey this has been a really violent game that it looks like the Pens are out of. Let me sit a guy whose had concussion issues for the final 75 seconds…”

Headline made me think the place was haunted.

So if we’re winning or losing by enough, we shouldn’t put our tough guys out but we shouldn’t put any of scoring lines out either? I think we’re running out of optional lines to put out there then. Maybe next game they can just spend the last 3 minutes or so of the game just looking at each other from the benches.
