thanks for that info. Why can’t they make goalie masks bulkier? it seems like any part of the mask above the eyes wouldn’t cause any vision issues for the goalie no matter how big it was (think 1990s Mark Kelso Buffalo Bills). Except if the extra weight was distracting, but it seems like it would be manageable.

Nope. I play goal and you’d be shocked how many guys will rifle shots at your head in practice. Ostensibly, they’re trying to pick a corner over your shoulder when you drop into the butterfly, and instead they pop you in the mask.

I was out for about a month earlier this season after taking a slapper from the left faceoff dot to the face. Got me right on the top of the cage on my right eyebrow, just below where the fiberglass would’ve deflected it. I’ve never felt as horrible as I did for those weeks when I was loopy. Nauseous, dizzy, tired, headaches. Absolutely miserable.

But, playing butterfly puts you in a position to get hit in the face on just about any shot, unless you’re over 6’6″ and your shoulders come up to the crossbar when you’re on your knees,

Hey there, not to throw cold water on the Habs pity party but isn’t it possible that the new management team just wants to make sure they don’t win the last few games and get themselves out of lottery contention, so they shut down their best player by design? A goalie getting a concussion during practice sounds weird doesn’t it?
