Vicious? Really? I read that before watching the video and expected a full on chicken wing to the chops or some kind of targeted head contact. I didn’t see either of them. It may be worthy of a suspension due to the fact he left his feet but he definitely made an attempt to keep his arm tucked. Doesn’t help that he caught Kopecky reaching at the last second.

Suspension, perhaps. Vicious, though? If this was vicious then what does that make the Keith elbow?

Kopecky did lose his footing and there was a hit to the head but it also wasn’t on purpose. He didn’t target the head. I could see the 5 and a game being enough honestly. If he gets suspended I see at most 2 games. Hard not to hit the head when Kopecky was in that position.

I guess it all comes down to how the NHL wants to handle the situation. Is Shanny looking at punishing the player (Quincey) for his actions, or is he looking at sending a message to the players? If you’re going to talk about player safety, then a player leaving his feet is reckless behavior, because unless you’re a figure skater, you really can’t control yourself in the air. If it’s the first, then a 1-2 game suspension, since he did get a major and a game misconduct. But if you want to send a message re: leaving your feet, maybe you make it 3-4 games.

You know, I just don’t see a suspension here for the most part. Sure there is contact with the head, but Kopecky lowered his head right into the hit. I dont even think he lost his edge, he just ducked right into it. We have this dicussion all the time about players needing to take responsibility for themselves, and I personally do not think a player that puts themselves in a dangerous position (even if its not right before the hit) deserves all that much protection from the leauge office. If Kopecky does not duck before the hit, it would have been a simple body check.

With all that said, Quincey does leave his feet quite a bit, which does make it possible he will get a game or two. Although with no injury, a 5 minute major for leaving your feet seems very reasonable so who knows.

He did leave his feet so I could see a suspension. That said, where is the diving penalty on Kopecky? This is the NHL…if you have to lay on the ice with two hands over your head go home.

Up in the air on that one. Kopecky did seem to start to lose an edge and bend over. Contact looks like it was either from the elbow or hip (maybe a combination) but he did leave his feet; Shanny puts a an emphasis on that.
Maybe if there was a decent replay…..
