Nicklas Backstrom returns to Caps lineup tonight

All the waiting and patience for Caps center Nicklas Backstrom is about to pay off tonight.

According to Stephen Whyno of The Washington Times, Backstrom went through line rushes at today’s morning skate paired up with Alex Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson. Backstrom’s return comes with a side dish of drama as well.

The Capitals face off against the Montreal Canadiens tonight, a team that now employs the guy responsible for knocking Backstrom out of action in Rene Bourque. Bourque, then a member of the Calgary Flames, threw a cheap shot elbow to the head of Backstrom that put him out of action for 40 games.

With Backstrom coming back while the Caps’ playoff destiny is in their hands now, thanks to Buffalo losing to Pittsburgh last night, it’s a huge moment for the Caps as they look to lock down a postseason spot.

I’m not sure if they will make the playoffs. I’m pretty sure if they do they won’t do too much, but if they ever had a chance 19 needed to be in the lineup. With Ovi heated up and having an top tier Center who knows.

Does this mean NBCSN is gonna change its schedule and run this game. (Not a snowballs chance in hell)

no they only do that for over glorified cry babys

I mean backstrom has done just as much as Crosby has in his career so I just don’t get it! The NHL must be out for the capitols. Not to mention the difference between a struggling caps team or a juggernaut Pittsburgh team.

I’d rather watch a re run of saved by the bell than these bum capitols. At least the saved by the bell cast has won something before unlike Washington. Adding Backstrom isn’t gonna change anything.

Someone PLEASE take out baroque tonight. And do it early to light a fire under the team!(even though there should already be a huge one)

@ bmoreredfury311, us Pens fans ALWAYS feel threatened by the Caps, after all, look how well they’ve fared against the Pens come playoff time. Or run commercials for local banks where the best player (Sid or Geno? not sure) is shown shooting a puck off the Craps mascot…
