So what News otulet do you work for, or do you cover any particular team? I mean, you obviously have more credentials then I do, and by that I mean enough free time to post hundreds of comments on almost every thread on this site. That means part of your job is to scour sites such as these for material, or, are unemployed, live in your parents basement waiting for your, judging by your handle, Transylvanian mail-order Bride.

While I disagree about them being so similar I do agree that neither play should receive a suspension. In fact most of those hits I feel do not warrant a suspension, even the Carcillo hit. But that is just me. At least the league got this call right (Chimera)…and thats coming from a Bruins fan.

they did what they could under the circumstances and, if he wants to do more next regular season, the individual player is free to do it. Plus, Shawn Thornton did ask one of their guys to go later in the game as well and he wasn’t interested. The problem with Bruin players just jumping on people is that it will 1) either produce a suspension from the NHL or 2) another mystery 5 on 3 and a later rescinded game misconduct as was given out at the start of the Vancouver game. Particularly for Lucic and Marchant the above situation would be likely to happen. The both get a lot of reputation penalties (especially Lucic). Given that they’re in the playoffs and have been dealing with suspensions and injuries since January, the last thing they need is any additional lost time they could avoid.

I’m afraid you are wrong and these two instances are exactly alike. The only difference is that McDonagh is skating toward the puck at the time of the hit. McDonagh skated looking at Ference over his left shoulder, then turned himself with his back squared up to Ference to shield the puck. Exact same circumstance as McQuaid, who turned his back square to the oncoming hitter to shield the puck. Neither should have been the subject of discipline.

Umm, nhstateline, I’m going to say the Bruins didn’t do anything. Your player is laying with his hands covering his face, and your team just huddled up on Chimera, like keeping him warm from the cold arena air. Sure, the Sabres reacted the same way to Millers incident, but he was hit, not boarded, and got up right away from it. Your also saying it’s ok to deal with it AFTER the fact, yet it was “gutless” by the Sabres to take care of it during their next meeting. Shouldn’t throw stones in glass houses.

there was a lot of yapping when Chara came onto the ice to sort this out with the officials and when the officials took Chimera off the ice and it wasn’t all at the men in stripes either. To say the Bruins players on the ice didn’t stand up for him, isn’t accurate. Plus, Chimera made it clear right after the play that he wasn’t interested in fighting and hadn’t been trying to hurt McQuaid. The game misconduct as the penalty seems about right to me given that plus if McQuaid wants to deal with this himself he can when he faces Chimera next season.

The difference with the Ference hit was McDonagh had his back to him the entire time, Ference was looking at his numbers.

Mcquaid turned right before he got hit, its the right call. If McQuaid didn’t turn (or if he actually saw Chimera) it would have been shoulder to shoulder contact. The charge is the right call. Chimera is just below the faceoff dot and he is still looking at McQuaids shoulder. Unfortunate McQuaid is injured, as he is on of my favorite Bruins player but Chimera should not be suspended.

Here is the ference hit so you can see they are totally different plays…

Even Julien thought Quaider put himself in a bad spot.

I don’t understand how Ference gets 3 games for the hit on McDonagh, but this one doesn’t even warrant a phone call.

I just don’t understand.

According to Shannahan’s logic this is even more serious because the play resulted in an injury. Doesn’t that make it more serious? Wasn’t that the reason Duncan Keith got as many games as he did, because his hit on Sedin resulted in an injury? Even a child could see how foolish these guys look.

All I’m asking for is some fu*@ing consistency. That’s all.

@elvis: The Bergeron line was on the ice–Bergeron shoved Chimera while looking at the ref to see what kind of penalty Chimera was going to get. There were no pugilists on the ice, and the Bruins would rather not have any of Seguin, Bergeron, or Marchand sit in the box.

This was the correct call. My only gripe is that this is the same exact type of circumstance that the league suspended Andy Ference for when he hit Ryan McDonagh behind the net. It should not have been a suspension then, and it should not be one now. I just wish the league would be consistent. When a player turns to place himself into a vulnerable position, its an on-ice penalty to hit him, but not worthy of supplementary discipline, even if the hitting player comes a long way to make the hit and had an opportunity to avoid it, and even if the player who got hit suffers an injury.

There’s a bunch of fail going on around here. He was called for charging, not boarding. (Whoever writes the headlines here, I shouldn’t really say much more than I’ve already said)

If you look up the rule on charging, the refs got it right. McQuaid made it worse by turning toward the boards, but Chimera had him lined up and started his sprint at him from center ice.

Get it right, folks.

That was what I was most surprised about. Plenty has been made by the Bruins fans about how other teams haven’t stood up for themselves (Vancouver, Buffalo) but there was at best a half hearted effort to get to Chimera by any Bruin on the ice.

And…. Ferh (?) didn’t even come close to making contact- so I guess Ferh did a good job and Mcquaid did an even better job of avoiding him. The way the Bruins stand up for their players and the fact they didn’t jump CHIMERA is a pretty good indicator. It was a charge, but Mcquaid made it a board. Good call. It looked much worse at without the benefit of replay.
