Here is why Parise will sign the Wild this summer.

1. As previously mentioned, he owns a house here in the Twin Cities, and his family still lives here in the Twin Cities.

2. The Wild are set up to become ridiciously good in the next couple years. They have 4 of the top 38 prospects in the NHL. They are all signed (except Mikael Granlund, who will be signed in May once his season ends in Finland) and the Wild are forced to burn a year of their contracts this year so they all don't come up from free agency, all at the same time. Granlund will be a super star, coyle has the upside to become an all-star as does Matt Hackett who we've seen.

3. The Wild will be adding possibly another franchise type player in the draft this year. There are 4 of them, and currently the Wild are tied for 3rd worse, and Edmonton only point behind them to pass them up. They will have a chance to win the lottery and get the #1 overall pick and Nail Yakubov. Worse case senario they pick 4th and still get one of the franchise players to add next year. Top 5 picks have been added to the roster the next year the past few years.

4. The Wild's contracts are set up to be able to keep adding more expensive veteran free agents starting this year. The will add either Parise AND/or Suter. They have the room for both.

5. Next year Backstrom's 6 million dollar contract comes off the books (Matt Hackett will be the #1 goalie then making less than 1 million). Bouchard's 4.2 million comes off the books. Cullen's 3.5 million comes off the books. That's another 13.7 million more in free agency next year alone, plus the amount the cap goes up.

6. Season after that, Dany Heatley's contract comes off the books. That is another 8 million right there. The Wild won't resign him at that price. He isn't a 50 goal scorer anymore. He's about half of that. Setoguchi's 2.7 million comes off the books as well. That's another 10.7 million plus whatever else the cap goes up.

7. While all these players contracts are off the books, all these prospects the Wild have accumulated over the past few years, will be in their rookie deals making less than a million, except for maybe Granlund who will be given a max contract.

danphipps, he grew up in Minnesota, his dad lives here, he bought a house here, we have a couple friends if his on the roster already. His dad was a former North Star. Craig Leopold is going to do everything in his power to get him here. Minnesotans love a home town boy. The X will start selling out the minute he signs the contract. To have one of our own be a star playing for the home team is huge. Joe Mauer for example. Even Chad Greenway, for the Vikings. He's from South Dakota, but he and his family ate huge Vikings fans. Sure, he's not a superstar, but he's a Damn good linebacker from the area. Jimmy Kleinsasser, the now retired TE for the vikings, was a HUGE fan favorite. He was drafted in the third round from North Dakota. It's not that we just expect him to sign, but we do expect the Wild front office to make every effort to make it happen. It's just good business.

I am from Minny and I say the Wild have an equal chance of anyone to land Parise this summer but that equal is the same to another 10 teams or so. In reality we have a 10% chance, just like everyone else.
NJ / MN / DET / on and on and on. Parise will get to choose where he wants to play for the next 5 years this summer.

I would rather the Wild / Fletcher throw serious cash at Suter than Parise, would galdly take either tho :)

Parise (unknowingly) answered his own question.

The fact that Parise is commenting on not just any back up QB, but this specific back up QB, is why there was a press conference.

The Chicago Bears held a press conference when they signed their new back up QB in Jason Campbell.

I doubt too many people questioned the Bears about that.

But, Tebow is a special case that will get people talking regardless of what he does. Tebow moves the needle and gets people talking.

And THAT is why there was a press conference to "unveil" Tebow as a member of the Jets.
