Ya his gloves were off but Lappierre was clearly already on his way, it was pretty close, and again he didnt interfere he just attempted to. Look at this is way … if Olver gave up on Booth and went with Lappierre no one would have looked at it negatively.

(and again, if you actually watched Canuck games you’d know that they’re in the top 10 in Fighting Majors)

It’s nice to look at it from the “defending a teammate” angle, but come on, Booth was clearly engaged by the point Lapierre got involved. He should have recognized Booth was going to take care of it himself. It was fairly apparent. Booth’s gloves were off already. Once the gloves are off, the player’s committed. Simple as that.

Good to see a couple Canucks willing to drop ‘em in the first place, though. That’s refreshing.

If anyones actually watched Canucks games this year you’d have noticed that Lappierre is having one hell of a season. He’s been the hit leader, chipped in offensively, been a defensive monster, rarely (if at all?) crossed the line with any questionable plays, has led the team in fights, and clearly sticks up for his teammates.

I don’t see how anyone can look at him attempting to step in for a 2nd line FWD who’s had two fights his whole career and then ultimately not interfering in the fight … and then call him a puke.

I think you missed the point. Typically, it’s rare for your skilled guys to fight… This isn’t because of risk of damage, but mostly because it’s just dumb to sacrifice your top-6 forward for the other team’s plugger for the duration of the penalties.

For example, this is why Bieksa rarely fights, he’s a top-4 defenceman. Unless his opponent is of similar value to his team, Bieksa would put the Canucks at a disadvantage fighting the average 4-th line/bottom pairing player.

It’s also why it’s really rare to see Booth drop the gloves because he’s a fighting a bottom-6 kid who just got called up from the AHL.

Exactly, the nucks are always taking someones else fight/scrum or jumping in as the 3rd or 4th guy. Booth was willing with an equal on the ice, lats should enjoy the show. Its not like Booth was sparring with Lucic.

It’s funny how it’s always perceived as a no-win for the Canucks:

1) Lapierre trys to take fight of his 2nd-line winger’s hands and he’s “a puke”
2) Booth sticks up for Tanev getting cranked last game by Olver and the Canucks can’t fight their own battles.

LOL. Keep having it both ways haters. The Canucks have done a good job of policing their own once it became obvious that the NHL has asked refs to ease up on non-stick related calls.

David Booth does not get paid 4.5 million dollars to break his knuckles on other people’s faces. That’s what greasy Frenchmen are for.

Laps is a puke, these two were willing, and engaged, should have grabbed a seat and watched the fight. He always is sticking his nose in, when things are just about to boil over, and ruins it.

Lappy often sticks up for the team, which usually leads to him getting s-kicked, but it’s still nice to see his he’s always in it
