That hit wouldnt even make a highlight reel if it wasnt Sidney, after a 2 minutes penalty the absolute max it might deserve would be a fine but I’d be shocked. Not every infraction is worthy of supplement discipline, doesnt mean it’s not an infraction, it just means that the punishment within the game fits the crime.

You know its a bad penalty when Steigerwald says Isles got raw deal.

That aside, these officials were lazy and reckless. Got in way of play constantly, and in one 6 minute stretch both goalies were injured, each team cleared the puck and neither time was a whistle blown. Both ultimately left with injuries, but the officials wouldn’t blow it dead with the puck 200 feet away.

Awful.

The fact that’s it’s Crosby shouldn’t matter but the reality is it probably would if there was actually the possibility of supplemental discipline.

1. The hits not really THAT bad, but even if it was the league won’t touch Crosby. Sure they threw the book at Duncan Keith, but not only is he not a super star…. he hurt a much bigger star then he is.

2. While the hit isn’t awful, it was a dangerous play. Crosby’s stick goes right across the numbers, so don’t even try to say it wasn’t from behind… and it was away from the boards enough that a serious injury could have happened. Is it suspension worthy? I doubt it since there was no injury, but again it doesn’t matter because of #1

3. Its this crap Don Cherry is always syaing Crosby has to stop doing. It might not be a suspendable play, but its certainly a dirty play… and its this kinda crap that will make people take runs at you. is Crosby really a guy who wants to give people a reason to take a run at him?

Officials are determining the outcome of games through their deliberate, conscious refusal to call the game as it’s in the books. I don’t care if its for or against my team – call the stinking penalty if its a penalty. Maybe guys will stop hooking, holding, tripping, interfering, and every other infraction that isn’t an infraction any more (except in random, unpredictable instances when for some reason they decide to actually call it).
