Huge game, certainly the game of the night, I’m just glad we are getting the Tampa’s out of the playoffs Lightning/Bruins game on NBC Sports Channel. Genius decision! This is why the NHL has trouble drawing eyeballs, dumb broadcast decisions.

Did or did not Myers just serve a three game suspension because of “physical” play. You can’t tell me suspensions on players are not looming in the back of these guys minds right now. And he may not want to face a suspension during some upcoming critical games.

I have really no issue with Myers game. Would I like a more physical presence of course can I live with that coming slowly as long as he produces offense as well. Yep. Go Sabres.

It’s 28. Myers is listed at 227, Chara at 255. I’m sure neither figure is exact, but yeah… Myers is a stroke.

Is it really 30 pounds? That kid must look like a subway pole without pads on.

If it helps, I used to think the same thing of Joe Thornton when he was in Boston- big, strong forward, would make the ultimate power forward in the Keith Tkachuk/John LeClair mold… and just never really turned into that player while he was in Boston. Hopefully Myers does for the Sabres.

I’m not gonna sit here and tell you that I wouldn’t love to see more of a mean streak to Myers’ game. What Sabres fan in their right mind wouldn’t?

But i stand by the fact that he has roughly 13-17 years of hockey left (barring something tragic) in which he could put his mind to it.

And it feels weird to keep going to Chara (because i hate him) but that’s everyone’s comparison Myers.. ‘Big Z’ still has 30 pounds on Myers just going by their listed weights, so I’d say putting on muscle is most definitely part of the issue.

The offensive numbers are a good thing, I won’t argue that. But to me it’s not even a matter of ‘muscle on his frame’- he’s a strong kid as it is. It’s that he doesn’t even try to get involved in physical play (again, based on my rare observations of him).

Not to bring up bad memories, but… remember when Lucic ran down Miller? (Of course you do, we all do). Myers was out there- not just during that play, but for the remainder of the game. Now, we all picked on the Sabres for a while for not defending their goalie, and rightly so I think. But Myers in particular should have had something to say about that- if not at Lucic, hell, go after SOMEONE and make it look like you’re at least trying to stand up for your teammate. He didn’t. Compare that to the kind of reaction you’d get from someone like Chara- not even Chara NOW, but Chara back when he was in New York would have gone after someone for a play like that as well.

Long-winded post aside, I just don’t get the feel from Myers that he has that kind of play in him- physical fitness aside, he’s just not a ‘hitting’ hockey player. And it’s a shame, because he sure could be one if he put his mind to it.

it’s not like he always gets hurt trying to fight people. the vast majority of his injuries come from blocking shots and aggressively (wrecklessly) throwing body checks. I can live with that out of a guy that gets paid less than a mil a year.

Zdeno Chara didn’t break the 40 point mark in an NHL season until he was 26 years old.

Myers scored 48 points in his rookie year as a 19/20 year old. He just turned 22 a month and a half ago.

He has as much, if not more offensive upside than Chara, and is still young enough that he can put more muscle on his frame and become a more physical presence.

Also. ravenscaps48.. get over yourself, not everyone wastes a first rounder on jeff schultz

I admit I’m fascinated by Myers. One of the biggest players in the league, but whenever I see the Sabres play he almost seems to avoid going in the corners and throwing hits. Maybe that’s just my impression from watching him an admitted very few times, but someone like that has the potential to be a physical powerhouse like Hal Gill or Zdeno Chara- so why doesn’t he do it?

Kaleta likes to hit the boards thats why he gets hurt. Its always a hand/shoulder with him, because he misses a check and nails the boards, hands first.

Anyways, he is good a shutting down other players, he is seemingly always out there with Ovie every time we play the caps. It will be good to have him back.

@ millertime & wez- Kaleta needs to hit the weight room or learn how to fight?!

He gets knocked on his ass alot & gets hurt! Also he gives the puck away to much.

Where is the 6′ 7″ Tyler Myer to knock people around.

I do give Kaleta props for being tough as a small player but he gets hurt for doing what the big guys should be doing?

Kaleta was out with an injury, getting kaleta back will be huge, players feed off his energy, and he brings much more offense than turnbull or mccormik, it’ll be a great game

Buffalo traded for Regehr this past offseason. He had 2 years left on his deal.
Would have been difficult for the caps to ‘sign’ him.

Since Miller is on fire & they aren’t playing Kaleta the Sabresshould make playoffs now they are healthy!
