PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

The Sabres and Capitals will face off Tuesday in a game with massive playoff implications and the Sabres are already stressing out about how to handle the red hot Alex Ovechkin. (Buffalo News)

The Jets are close to being done and losing Bryan Little won’t do anything to help them out. (Winnipeg Sun)

The Blues were excited to have Alex Steen and Kris Russell back last night. (Post-Dispatch)

The Lightning are happy to have Tom Pyatt as their goal mouth menace. (Tampa Tribune)

The Ducks loss to Boston last night puts them on the brink of elimination. (OC Register)

As for those who are officially out of the running, welcome the Minnesota Wild to that list. The Wild are the first team to be in first place on December 1 that wound up missing the playoffs (credit: Hockey Wilderness). The Wild are now one point out of being 29th out of 30. (Star Tribune)

Just read the article Joey. He said nothing about the Sabres stressing out. What was said is that Alex is now heating up and therefore will warrant close attention in the upcoming game. Duh!! The main guy of every team always get extra attention. If you are going to make an article with snippets from the local paper of each team don’t put your own take on what was written.

    Huge game.

If the Caps can come out with some emotion, that would be nice. They looked brain dead while shutting out the Wild yesterday.

To hell with that. I want 60 minutes out of them for once. They came out with emotion and fire on Friday night against Winnipeg, took a 3-0 lead, and… fizzled. That can’t happen again, not with every point being so vital now.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen out of Ovechkin lately (never thought I’d be able to type that again), and Holtby has played very well in net. Time for the rest of the Capitals to step up and do their part for three periods against Buffalo. Once I see that, I’ll believe they have a snowball’s chance against the Rangers (assuming they get in).

Who would have thought Sabres would be pushing for a playoff spot?

      Ryan Miller did.
