		<description><![CDATA[Yeah - Southerners don&#039;t like hockey because of the fighting. That&#039;s why rasslin&#039; isn&#039;t more popular. That&#039;s why MMA isn&#039;t a bigger draw. That&#039;s why rooster- and dog-fighting disappeared ages ago. It couldn&#039;t be the alien elements of blades and ice combined with a speed of play that requires concentration and patience. Not to mention scores lower than that of baseball. Yep. Fighting must be the reason.]]></description>

I used to work in the Sports Dept. of a newspaper in a non-NHL  US city that did have a junior team, and the regular comments reflected a lack of respect for a sport that tolerated the stupidity of appointment fights (as opposed to tussles growing out of a heated match). When news space was more limited, NHL was always the first thing cut. That was the reality. With hockey starting off with the handicap of not being a native sport in the southern half of the US, it doesn&#039;t help to stick with the Neanderthal element.]]></description>
