It shouldn’t matter who is taken out with an elbow to the head….Sedin, Crosby or Eager, Shaw…the penalty should not be determined by who was hit but by the hit itself.

Defending Art Ross winner is taken out with an elbow to the head and the most Keith can get suspended for is 5 games. What happened to those massive suspensions we saw in the preseason? Why wouldn’t they re-think their policy on elbows to the head after Rene Bourque took Backstrom’s head off? What happened to protecting the players from head shots?

Shanny was all talk when he said he was going to send a serious message about head shots. I think Daniel deserves a minor suspension for his hit and Keith deserves a major suspension for his.

A poster on a message board I frequent put this together, the NHL’s suspensions for head shots this year in chronological order:

12, 2 , 8, 3, 4, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3

I guess Bourque’s 5 belongs in there somewhere, but obviously Shanny shot his wad earlier in the season; the players must know by now that the new boss isn’t all that different from the old boss.

Can’t say I’m surprised as a rational observer of the league’s not-much-less-inconsistent-than-last-year supplemental discipline policy.

As a hockey fan who would like to see predatory attempts to injure removed from the game I’m disappointed to see they won’t be giving Keith any more than five games.

As a Canucks fan I am hoping Duncan Keith falls down a few flights of stairs and that I somehow get to watch.

That’s no surprise though, how the NHL is run is a joke. The Coyotes are a joke, the officiating this year has been a joke, and Shanny’s “consistency” is a joke.

Wonder why nobody’s laughing.
