he doesn’t play on the same line as malkin, neal, kunitz, dupuis, staal–except on the powerplay
he’s on the same line as kennedy who cant hit the broad side of a barn and cooke who also isnt really a goalscorer even strength. yet they both have had 2 goal games already. what does that tell you?

It would be a whole lot easier to watch Crosby’s comeback if I didn’t have to listen to Pierre McGuire shouting his idiotic remarks from ice level. If I have to hear him say “hey, Edzo” one more time I’m hitting the mute button! Please NBC Sports, get rid of the 3rd wheel, you’re killing Doc Emrick’s play by play!!!

The truth is Crosby himself hasn’t played that great in his return. Its the guys around him and the team as a whole that are on fire right now. Its easy to rack up assists when every time you make a simple settup play the pucks are going in the net.

If the Pens were struggling right now, Crosby’s so-so play would be much more noticable and the fact he hasn’t scored in 5 games despite Pittsburgh having a couple blowouts in that time would be front page news.

For people who wonder why Crosby gets so much attention, let’s look at some simple facts…

Crosby has played 12 games this season. In those 12 games, he has put up 21 points. That is 1.75 points per game. The three league leading scorers: Malkin, Giroux and Stamkos, are also the three leading in points per game.

Malkin: 1.43 PPG
Giroux: 1.22 PPG
Stamkos: 1.17 PPG (tied with Foligno)

If you theoretically gave Crosby the same number of games as Malkin this season (65 games played) and he stayed on the same pace, he’d have 113 points thus far. Yeah, sick. Wait, it gets better. The same number of games as Giroux (69 GP)? 120. Stamkos (72 GP)? 126. A full 82 game NHL season at his current pace projects to 144 points. So when you wonder why Crosby gets the attention, it’s because he is, by the numbers, quite clearly the best player in the game.

P.S. Last season, Crosby played 41 games until knocked out by injury. To that point, he was averaging 1.61 points per game and finished with 66 points, projected out to 132 for the year. (Which also mean, thus far, that he’s playing even BETTER post-injury. Yikes. His 66 points in 41 games tied him, FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON, in 30th overall with guys like Jeff Carter, Rick Nash, Mike Richards and Joe Pavelski, all of whom played between 74-81 games.

P.P.S. A quick shout-out to Malkin’s dominance THIS season over Stamkos and Giroux… less games, more points, hottest team in the league before Crosby’s return… MVP. Easiest decision one can make this year.

i love the crosby coverage. they cover everything, when the pens score they went to his reaction. but at the end of the game, they dont show who is laying on the ice. -1 for sid, no mention of that
