This has always been my point in regards to Rome. I have no problem with him getting suspended. It was a late hit. He deserved a suspension. The idea that his hit was (if you go by the punishment) quite literally one of the worst hits ever in this history of the NHL…well that’s just silly.

Shanny is right, the playoff suspensions do carry more weight than the regular season. Isn’t this the time to send messages then. If he had given gave Kesler 4 games yesterday the players would (hopefully) be thinking that that means 1 game for a comparable infraction in the playoffs, instead this leaves them thinking that if that wasn’t suspendable in the regular season they can do just about anything they want and go unpunished in the playoffs.

Perhaps, This Is one you can have ‘written down’ and carry in your back Pocket! A clear way

to determine player behaviour modification is through a healthy Fine to fit the rule infraction.

Beyond That, any Suspension levied During a Playoff Game will effect the whole team inasmuch

that the Player that fails to control a quick impulse….be he an inforcer or a centre star or a high point

scorer effects a teams’ standings in the eye of the observers. Also, it effects the Team worse than

Trips to the Penalty box— as we are comparing short — handed play verses ‘days off ‘ without play

(or, the League suspension ). I firmly concur with Mr. B Shanahans’ reasoning.

Well he completely inconsistent in his handing out discipline anyway do why is this statement a surprise? So is he saying that once the playoffs start cheap shots will be more acceptable. Of course anybody that gets within 10 feet of Cindy Crosby will be the exception.

“we’re in the changing player behavior business.” Riiiight. So far it looks like that behavior is complete dirty hit and gamble on no injury on the play so there is no suspension. Good job Shanahan.
