PHT Morning Skate: Yup, Leafs fans were chanting “Fire Burke” last night

Mar 21, 2012, 7:32 AM EST

Maple Leafs fans AP

PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

With how miserable the Leafs have played in the second half, especially lately, you knew the “Fire Burke” chants were coming. Losing 5-2 to the Islanders at home gets Jeff Blair to go on full attack against the team. (Globe And Mail)

Of course, not all things written by Toronto columnists is going to be agreed with and the guys at Pension Plan Puppets sure don’t agree with Blair’s take on the situation. (PPP)

Well look here, Travis Zajac is very close to returning to the Devils lineup. (Fire & Ice)

Taylor Hall got his skate on yesterday as he looks to get back after his concussion. (Edmonton Journal)

Tyler Myers is back for Buffalo after his suspension. (Buffalo News)

Ilya Kovalchuk cares not about scoring his 400th goal, he wants the playoffs. (NHL)

Uh oh you guys, the St. Louis Blues finally had a fully healthy practice for the first time this year. (Post-Dispatch)

Former Red Wings forward Shawn Burr is battling cancer. (Sun Media)

Meanwhile, Mike Babcock would really like to see his team tighten things up defensively and fast. (Detroit Free Press)

Turns out that Rangers GM Glen Sather is a big Mats Zuccarello fan and wants to see him back in New York. (Ranger Rants)

LET’S GO ISLANDERS. Taunting aside i really like the fact that the isles finally have enough pride to try hard to win games despite not being able to make the playoffs keep nabby and pa and there’s a chance next year

Isles fan here – Can empathize with Leafs fans. Years of mismanagement and losing is grounds for frustration.

Folks on the island have had to put up with a biased media (towards the Rangers), incompetent politicians (regarding the coliseum) and 20 years of no success.

That being said, not every team has four consecutive championship banners hanging in their building – always gotta believe !

I completely agree ever since Millbury left my motto has been “there’s always next year!”

Hahahaha atleast there is hope without him. I would love to hear your motto for when Milbury was there. Milbury gutted that franchise. He probally traded away 20 solid players and picks, while getting absolutley nothing in return. There is having a budget, then there is being stupid. And Milbury might have had a budget, but man was he stupid.

If the Islanders can settle out their building issue and create what is then a sure stable environment to lure a couple more seasoned veterans to mentor the youth (Doug Weight was a good example of this, but unfortunately was often injured) this team has tremendous amounts of youthful talent. Tavares, Molson and Parentheau are a strong trio, and then Okposo, Grabner, Neilsen and Bailey make for a strong core. They really have the potential to become a real good team.

Looks like the phenomena of a paper bag over the head has finally left the Detroit Lions and made it’s way east into Toronto.

And this is why I didn’t get too excited about the Bruins lopsided win the other night. The air has offiicially left the Toronto balloon.
