Tanner Glass wishes Jets fans weren’t so mean

When the Washington Capitals paid a visit to Winnipeg on Friday night, the fans there showed the Caps how loud they can be when they serenaded Alex Ovechkin with chants of “Crosby’s better.” While Ovechkin took it all in stride being taunted that way, some Jets players didn’t really care so much for it.

Paul Waldie of The Globe And Mail catches up with Jets forward Tanner Glass who doesn’t like to see (and hear) the fans be so snarky.

“I don’t like that stuff. I don’t have time for that,” Glass said Saturday after the Jets practised. “Cheer for a guy or even against him but, I don’t know, I think that’s a bit much. … I wouldn’t be chanting it.”

Why so serious, Tanner?

The home ice advantage the Jets have playing in the intimate MTS Centre is perhaps their greatest asset. Having the fans not riding the opponents’ top players and not being perhaps the league’s most vocal fans would mean not having an intimidating atmosphere to play in.

Then again, maybe Glass would be happier playing somewhere quieter like Toronto.

“Crosby’s better” is not the worst thing I’ve heard chanted

I agree. I’ve seen and heard much worse.

I like Tanner Glass. Hope this doesn’t hurt his chances of re-signing with the Jets this off-season.

Which other Jets voiced their displeasure?
I respect Tanner’s opinion, but do disagree with it. Even Ovechkin laughed about it after the game & thought it was great. The only chant I thought wa inappropriate this year is when a small portion of Jets fans chanted “Lu Chic” in the Buffalo game

Maybe I’m ignorant but I tried to google translate Lu Chic and couldn’t figure it out. Some help with the reference please? Milan Lucic? Something else?

Lucic destroyed Ryan Miller earlier in the season and embarrassed the team pretty badly so the Jets fans heckled Buffalo by chanting his name.

“File this under: “complaints never heard in Atlanta.””

Should contain a warning not to be eating cereal when reading

And Boy oh Boy playing in the ATL sure has made some guys sensitive
We won’t be seeing Tanner wearing a Toronto or Montreal jersey anytime soon

Add Philly. We would rip him to shreds if he said something like this.

    • lostpuppysyndrome - Mar 18, 2012 at 2:38 PM

Except for the fact that Glass never played in ATL. He was in Van city last year. What does that say about Nucks fans? GO JETS GO!

Its great that Jets fans are so enthused, but a little silly that they boo another team’s best player every time he touches the puck. Ranger fans would do that to Denis Potvin back in the day and Ranger players from that era will tell you that they hated it because that would simply motivate Denis to take it out on them physically and production-wise. I suspect that top players like Ovi and JT have the same response today. Counterproductive I’d say. Still Glass probably would’ve been wiser to keep that criticism to himself.

  6. lostpuppysyndrome - Mar 18, 2012 at 2:40 PM

Well apparently booing another team’s best player doesn’t motivate them enough to win many games in Winnipeg so I say keep it up Jets fans. Keep the Hangar rockin.

  7. rwmilli - Mar 18, 2012 at 3:02 PM

Or maybe he just thinks it’s stupid that they are chanting about something that has no relation to the game….last I checked Crosby plays for the penguins, not the caps or the jets….boo him, taunt him, but keep it relevant to the game your watching…this is coming from a van fan by the way! Just figure he has nothing to do with jets vs caps so cheer your team, boo OV but keep it relevant to what your watching!

Not his place. He won’t ever have to worry about being compared to either of the elite players in the league. Jets fans chant GST when his line is on the ice, I’m thinking this may come to an end. It’s sports, don’t take yourself too seriously.

Yes “Lu Chic” “translates to “lucic” it’s sad that you had to google that
