This is what gets me. Thats a far worse hit then the one Ovechkin was suspended for. Ovechkin left his feet and made some contact with the head in his hit, but it wasn't from the blind side, head was not principle point of contact, and the head wasn't targeted. On this hit, he doesn't leave his feet but the head is CLEARLY the point of contact, and very much seemed to be targeted. On top of that Johansson was in a vulnerable spot and the hit came from the blind side.

With all that said, Ovechkin was suspended for three games compared to only a $2,500 fine for Stuart, which might as well be no action at all with how much these guys make. We can argue all day long about which hit was worse, but they are both about the same... and theo nly difference was Ovechkin had a record. Is having a record really worth 3 games compared to none, especially when Ovechkins record didn't involve headshots? I certainly don't think so. If its a dirty hit and suspendable, its a dirty hit thats suspendable.... record or not.

Shanahan had a good start to his job, but as the year has gone on there has become yet more uncertainty with suspensions. Its really sad.

Caps players are always going to be a little more high profile(thanks to the leagues love affair with OVI) and in return are going to be made an example. Unfortunately the Caps haven't earned any glitz and glamour with early exits from the playoffs being their calling card! I'm hoping that changes this year with them struggling to stay in the playoff race. We miss you T. Fleischman!!!
