Bryzgalov makes it very clear that his shutout record was a team accomplishment

Earlier this month, Flyers forward Danny Briere set off a mini-firestorm when he said that goalie Ilya Bryzgalov had “actually been a great teammate” of late – the inference being Bryzgalov hadn’t always been a great teammate.

Briere also said that before “everything was about Bryz. When he played well, when he played bad, everything was about Bryz.”

Later Briere said he was only trying to pump Brygalov’s tires, not throw him under the bus for past transgressions.

However, it’s telling that Bryzgalov was extremely quick to credit his teammates last night after setting a club record for longest shutout streak.

In fact, he almost went overboard recognizing everyone around him.

“I think it’s not for me,” he said. “I think it’s a great team accomplishment. I know I was not alone on the ice. It is a team thing. And I think the whole team deserves it. I just want to say congratulations to the organization and all players who played these games.”

Here’s the video of Bryzgalov’s scrum, courtesy CSNPhilly.com. (Not shown: Bryzgalov acknowledging the team’s trainer for doing such a bang-up job sharpening skates. Can’t set a shutout record without sharp skates.)

Now this is news. At least you earn right to brag but humble to come out say its a team not a crybaby wussy sat out nearly whole year like crosby. Go flyers hope you shutout pens next go around and punch shyt out of crybaby if he gets close to the net.

Did I miss something? Why are you turning this into an anti-Crosby rant?

    • flyersgoalscoredby88 - Mar 16, 2012 at 2:14 PM

      What?

    • rsl22 - Mar 16, 2012 at 2:21 PM

Three words for you to Google: punctuation, grammar, syntax.

    • miketoasty - Mar 16, 2012 at 5:17 PM

So you add more Crosby talk into a non Crosby article. You realize you are doing the opposite of what you want?

I don’t think I have seen a more Jekyll and Hyde player in the 35 years I have followed this team. But what I do see is the $51 million man the Flyers thought they were signing, Its not just his play, its his attitude about the team and the coaching. The easy shots that were getting past him in the first 3/4 of the season are a thing of the past. You look at this guy play and he is so focused and confident that I am amazed that anything got past him last night. The first goal was truly one of those “the goalie had no chance” goals. As we all know, goaltending wins Cups and its a bit early, but it looks like for the first time in many years, the Flyers have the goalie who is capable of doing just that.

      Phoenix probably thought that too

      • vismund11 - Mar 16, 2012 at 11:49 PM

Phoenix is not the Flyers, hence why they’re gonna move locations and have barely made the playoffs. Dont drag the Flyers name through the mud of any mention of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Bryz: “teamwork. I used lot of teamwork in my success.”

haahha this guy is such a joke. I’m so glad the filthadelphia flyers have him it makes me appreciate how great the franchise is. keep dreaming about the cup you dirtballs

    • odj810 - Mar 16, 2012 at 12:52 PM

phillys got a shot at the cup. Its all even ground once the playoffs start anything can happen. Even ovi could win

    • dsd3 - Mar 16, 2012 at 1:16 PM

Whatever, Bryz has been much better than Fleury since the All Star break. Relax yourself.

    • vismund11 - Mar 16, 2012 at 11:51 PM

Pump your breaks man, The flyers have a goalie coming into his game in a new city, a (banged up) defense that’s helped him reach a team milestone, and WAY more offensive firepower that ‘sh*t can sid’ or Geno.

  5. lasallehockey81 - Mar 16, 2012 at 12:18 PM

You can be pretty confident that PHX, even if they regarded Bryz as the best goalie to ever play the game, had an idea they were a long shot to win a Cup with the team they had around him coming out of the West. So that comment makes no sense at all. Two different teams, two different rosters, two different styles of play, two different upsides. whatever PHX did or thought is irrelevant to this years Flyers team.

    I love Internet tough guys

    • govtminion - Mar 16, 2012 at 12:59 PM

Isn’t it great? I for one never cease to be impressed by someone who talks trash while hiding behind an anonymous screen name.

you my friend must not watch hockey at all. compare the wins. fluery is a gamechanger and should be considered mvp before henrik. even tho we all know malkins going to win that

    • flyersgoalscoredby88 - Mar 16, 2012 at 2:17 PM

Yes, when I want to evaluate a goalie’s performance I’m going to do it solely on wins. Because whether you let up less goals than your team scores is indicative of whether you’re a better goalie than another guy. It would be one thing if every goalie had the same defense and faced the same offense every night, but that’s not the way hockey is played. Goaltender wins are as useless as pitcher wins. Fluery is easily a top 12 goalie, but he’s not even close to Lunqvist. That’s like comparing Leighton to Fleury.

Thats awesome. I dont even know what to say

    • dsd3 - Mar 16, 2012 at 4:00 PM

      Hahahaha … right.

  8. barkar942 - Mar 16, 2012 at 2:31 PM

I m glad to see that Bryz finally has his ERA….. I mean GAA lower than Connor Crisps!

They always say goalies are Quirky. Bryz fits that to a tee!

  9. hartsy19 - Mar 16, 2012 at 3:32 PM

If you score on Bryz, keep the puck because it doesn’t happen often.

  10. miketoasty - Mar 16, 2012 at 5:20 PM

Wait what happened to all the Bryz haters? Shows how much Philadelphia can flip flop when it comes to sports. Let’s see what happens if the Flyers get swept out of the playoffs…

Good job in the last couple of games though Bryz…. coming from a Pens fan.

  11. lasallehockey81 - Mar 16, 2012 at 7:08 PM

Ok.. Hypothetical.. Say Fleury wasn’t drafted.. You signed him as a free agent, after years of subpar goaltending, for 51 million as an answer to what was basically the reason you were swept from the previous years playoffs. Then by midseason, his GAA is near 3 and save % is under .900. Pittsburgh fans would do what? Ill assume not be pissed of and voice their opinion since the theme of your comment seems to be that Flyers fans were out of line by bashing his obviously horrendous play up until now. A big FA is brought in and underperforms… What exactly are fans of the team supposed to do? Be happy and shut up? I don’t get it.
