Talk amongst yourselves: Crosby, Penguins top Rangers 5-2

Mar 15, 2012, 9:37 PM EDT

The comments section is open. Go say what you think. No big whoop.

We’ll give you some topics:

—- Sidney Crosby moved around the lineup quite a bit, even though he played a big chunk of his time with Tyler Kennedy and Matt Cooke. Who would you play him with if you were the Pittsburgh Penguins?

—- Kris Letang‘s return was a smash-hit, with an assist and a +5 rating while leading the Penguins in time on ice. Is he a top five defenseman in the NHL when healthy?

—- The Carl HagelinBrad RichardsMarian Gaborik line combined for two New York Rangers goals and six points combined. Are they becoming the most dangerous trio in the NHL? Could they be more dangerous than Pittsburgh’s current top line of Evgeni Malkin, James Neal and Chris Kunitz?

—- Crosby had an assist and a +3 rating in the game. Has he set the bar high enough that this was a disappointing performance?

—- The Penguins are now just four points behind the Rangers with a game in hand and one more contest left against New York. Will Pittsburgh take the Atlantic Division or could the Blueshirts hold on?

—- Obvious question alert: does this win convince you that the Penguins are “the team to beat” in the East? If not, which team holds that spot in your mind?

Now go, talk amongst yourselves.

Id like to see this game played again with a full rangers lineup. Just like the pens had. With cally, mdz and vezina winner, the king.

    • steelhammer92 - Mar 15, 2012 at 10:06 PM

Yeah, because beating a fully healthy Rangers 2-0 without Crosby meant absolutely nothing… Neither did the 4-1 win in January. The Pens have played the Rangers very well all season. The depth is simply too much for the Rangers to handle. Take off the homer glasses.

    • sportsfreak13 - Mar 15, 2012 at 10:41 PM

i love it because on the first post about crosby coming back a ranger fan said” good now the pens have no excuse when we beat you”, now i understand that quote.

  3. Stiller43 - Mar 15, 2012 at 9:55 PM

    10 in a row.

  4. ironcity6pak - Mar 15, 2012 at 10:04 PM

First off, the Pens are better then the rangers with or without 87. Should 87 be on the the first line? No, why fix what isn’t broken. Is Letang a top 5 when healthy? No, he’s the best period…when healthy. Are the pens the team to beat now with 87 back? No, the ranger are since they are still in first. Having all the pieces of the puzzle back to this team is so important but only if they can all play together, something they haven’t done all year. If all goes well and everyone clicks.. “lord Stanley, Lord Stanley get me the Brandy!!” (Mike Lang)

woah woah woah….weber, lidstrom and chara disagree with the letang is the best comment. but i would definitely put him in the top 5

      • cmutimmah - Mar 16, 2012 at 11:08 AM

I love drunk Pens fan commenting.

Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang are the same people pretty much. Letang slowly learned how to play D just like EK will.

You cannot, with a straight face, believe that Letang is currently better than Lidstrom or Chara. I think Weber is comparable because I’m not sure if the system is what makes him look better defensively or if it’s his ability. Rookies step in there and put up a good plus/minus. Lidstrom is the smartest player on the ice (he makes the least amount of needed effort to get the job done because he’s rarely if ever out of position…) and Chara is just a physical marvel whose reach and shot are great. His ability to turn/agility for his size is impressive. Those two guys are 1a and 1b, not sure who goes where (I give the edge to Lidstrom because his age says he should be just average at best, yet is still in the top 3 conversation..)

Letang is becoming easier to consider elite, however.

Chara is the best defensemen in the game. Period.

he was on his face luck assist and against rangers that was on worst off night. Can’t wait hope hartnelle lays crybaby out but bet they take him off protects the wussy. Malkin neal cookie the rest that the team made the pens I call it malkin neal team more crybaby team. Get off his nuts

    • bcs1283 - Mar 15, 2012 at 11:09 PM

Hartnelle or Hartnell? Dumbass. If he even tries to get near Crosby, he’ll have to deal with Engelland. Remember how Harnell backed down from him last game? Who’s the real “wussy” here?

      • me6661973 - Mar 15, 2012 at 11:43 PM

Crosby he can’t play a full season. Jagr best pens player and now he is a flyer. That’s guy is more news than crybaby wuss like crosby. Malkins or james neals pens I say they are the stars cryby just a feeder of nothing.

I feel like we should cut you some slack as english is clearly your second language …

  7. mbuff - Mar 15, 2012 at 10:11 PM

Yes, they are the team to beat. Boston’s in a slide, New York can’t score, and Philly still has goaltending issues….1st round of playoffs should be interesting….

  8. brian32556 - Mar 15, 2012 at 10:13 PM

We got beat by the better team tonight. It was a concern all season when our Rangers weren’t scoring, but we could always depend on team defense to keep it close. The last two weeks, team defense is no where to be seen. The good news is, they have the ability and have to find it again before the playoffs.

Oh JAMES O’Brien-you’re showing off your absence of intelligence with the self protrait of YOURSELF- STOP the self-degradation- you look terrible as a female.

  10. gaborik104life - Mar 15, 2012 at 10:21 PM

here are some other topics: Rangers are without the reason they’re up top at first in the standings (Lundqvist). Not really complaining about the players but I mean no mention of arguably the best goalie in the league not playing is a topic. Fleury played really well for the pens but honestly no one should read too much into this game. I’m curious to see the teams play when fully healthy on both sides (Been quite a long time it feels like). Defiantly a great matchup though and there is one more game to go so series can end up tied.

Two other things one is the call Gaborik did not get when he broke by and was taken down with a “trip.” How was this not called I mean was he supposed to be leaping over the guy and it wasn’t just his stick, Gaborik ran into the guys glove and fell. Was just curious about this because I watched this game with a few people and no one could figure out why it wasn’t.

Also Engllend’s elbow or forearm shiver to Fedotenko non call.

    • steelhammer92 - Mar 15, 2012 at 10:37 PM

Again, what about the games in February and January? The Pens beat the Rangers 2-0 and 4-1 without Crosby, and against fully healthy Rangers teams with Lundqvist in net. The Rangers beat the Pens 4-3 with Crosby on November 29, but that was a loooong time ago. The Rangers aren’t playing as well as they did early in the year because they are gassed from a lack of depth.

    • sportsfreak13 - Mar 15, 2012 at 11:00 PM

niskanen got puck first therefore by rule its not a trip. Can’t blame a 3 goal loss on one play and a absentee line up. Pens know everything about injuries. That England hit should of been a penalty but against our pk I don’t know if it would of mattered.good game. Looking forward to more.

      • brian32556 - Mar 16, 2012 at 4:21 PM

“Touching the puck first” is not the rule, its a guideline. It does not prohibit ref from calling tripping. It was close play, but I thought the Englland elbow more egregious and obviously missed. It will be an interesting couple of weeks and the final week of play for both teams are against the toughest competition. May the best team win!!

    • letangusespertplus - Mar 16, 2012 at 12:18 AM

have some whaaa-mburgers and some french cries.

    • letangusespertplus - Mar 16, 2012 at 12:19 AM

oh and in all seriousness, you probably thought orpik deserved that tripping call to didn’t you?

      shut it.

  11. penzfan329 - Mar 15, 2012 at 10:24 PM

crosby looked pretty good. you guys must be blind. pittsburgh is better with him and letang back is huge. hes top 3 if you ask me. and the flyers definitely do not have a goalie problem if you havent seen their last 6 games. they will be a team to get past come playoffs

The return of Cynthia is yesterday’s news, as right now the absolute “top” team in the NHL are the Vancouver Canucks ! … it’s not these lame, unpredictable “flightless” birds, captained by some “robot speak” weirdo ! …. so you fools waste all the time you like, talking about Cynthia’s sore head and the color of underwear he should be wearing tomorrow, etc … “legitimate” contenders like the LA Kings are now gearing up for the real battle which surely lies ahead !

  13. underwoodsbeard - Mar 16, 2012 at 1:49 AM

Loving the grammar from you rocket scientists… LeLame the best??? Some dude named Shea Weber disagrees. Enjoy the Eastern Conference until you meet the West! By the way, I think you must be referring to Scotty Hartnell in that post (Not Hartnelle, way to be a fan! It’s on his sweater. “Reading, it’s not just for children”)

What does Montreal have to do with this?! Even as a NY Ranger/Yankee/Giants fan from NY, I know in hockey, Les Habs are THE FRANCHISE.
