Nous vous souhaitons bien Québécois ! (ie: we wish you well Quebec)
------------------------------------------------------

Another terrific story by Jason Brough, who seriously does have a pulse on things ! The concept of Quebec City returning to the NHL "post haste" is an absolute no brainer and the sooner this happens, the better for all. I personally have no love for the Frenchies, as my own bloodlines have been antagonists with them for centuries. Nonetheless, one thing I do have for them is respect. They are a proud, cultured and highly civilized people ... not to mention that hockey is as French Canadian, as baseball is American ! Let's not also forget the fact that up until 1759, New France incorporated the entire eastern half of North America, except for just the small north-eastern pocket then known as New England.

If the team is not given to him (i.e. with government money) then Peladeau won't be interested. He's interested because they're building the arena for him and he wants a team for his TV network to compete with the Canadiens. In K-bek they always want a freebie -
1) the province says we want more money and half of the public service jobs (which they got) or we'll separate.
2) the Canadiens fans say we want more french or we'll picket and boycott your beer.
3) Peladeau says build me the arena and probably the expansion/relocation fee or i'll back out.
Hopefully Commissioner Bettman will realize that this is just being used by a rich person trying to get richer and more powerful, and he'll never offer them a franchise. It failed there because it's not a big enough city to have a major league team. Red Bull Crashed Ice is about as big an event as that hick town can handle.
P.S. the separatist PQ opposition party said that halal/kosher meat "goes against K-bek values". But they're not racists....

Few thoughts.

The pressure for French on that team will be worse than Montreal. QC makes Montreal feel like Toronto. It probably wouldn't pop up right away but after the honeymoon phase I'm willing to bet it would. I guess on the flipside that would be good for Montreal as it would put less focus on it there as all the politicians would have 2 teams to complain about.

As perfect a fit as this seems, I don't think the NHL wants to relocate any team there. With that new conference set up they want with 8-8-7-7 they probably desire to make it 8's across the board which means expansion teams. Expansion fee > relocation fee and expansion fee in Canada>>>expansino fee in KC or Houston or Seattle or wherever. Then they put one in the arena in Markham too and move the Florida teams in with all the New York area teams. The NHL was probably silently wishing for that Seattle deal to work out so they could have more options if/when Phoenix needs to move.
