He has identified his team’s needs and promptly addressed them, a huge change from the prior GMs who couldn’t address a fatal flaw in their team (Burke – goaltending, Nonis – forward depth) for several years running.

He is also the reigning NHL Executive of the Year (as voted on by NHL General Managers) so you know, there’s that.

Kesler and the Sedins(the core of your team) were both drafted by Burke. the only thing Gillis has done has put mediocre pieces around that core and whine about officiating.

I just think Wilson has squandered the organization’s depth in the last few years and even though they have a Conference Finals appearance to show for it, look where they are now.

As for the lack of better options, I’ll just say that as a Canucks fan I was worried about the same thing when Dave Nonis got fired; I barely knew who Mike Gillis was, let alone what he was capable of doing for that team.

Is every move that he makes a win or the sharks? No, but you won’t find any gm win every deal. Fact is he has always tried to get the team exactly what it needs and wins most the deals he does pull off.
