Human error is a part of officiating, and I know as I am a ref and have reffed at a high level. Having said that, the refereeing in the past couple of months has been atrocious. They are unfortunately letting the game slide back to the way it was in the dead puck era. While this is happening, the calls they are making are totally inconsistent. Gregson needs to lose his job over this.

And I’ll say it AGAIN as well, this is the most poorly officiated season I’ve seen in the thirty plus years I’ve been watching the game. Whether it’s missed icing calls, plays not blow dead when the puck is covered by the goalie, phantom penalties or missed high sticks to the face, the officials are all off their collective games. Is this a case of too many veteran officials retiring on mass and being replaced by inexperienced guys or is it confusion over the rules or poor management of the entire group by Terry Gregson? Whatever the case it needs to be fixed before the playoffs and some team loses no only a series but millions of dollars in revenue because of one of these blown calls. Not to mention the PR firestorm that will ensue.
