Devils irked by Dubinsky comments, Dubinsky injures hand in fight

There was a bit of karma at play during New Jersey’s 4-1 win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

New York’s Brandon Dubinsky — who, last week, called out Devils forward David Clarkson for his “selectivity” in choosing fight partners — was challenged to a scrap by Clarkson’s teammate, Ryan Carter. The bout left Dubinsky with an injured hand (which we’ll get to in a second) and Carter issuing some words for the Rangers center.

“I don’t think the two games were too happy with how the other handled the situation,” Carter told ESPN New York. “Talking to [Clarkson] I think there were some comments made that probably didn’t need to be made. I don’t know if he wanted to play that type of game again tonight. I saw him give [Eric] Boulton a slash in the leg and we kind of went from there.”

Dubinsky fought Clarkson during the Rangers’ 2-0 win against New Jersey last Monday and had some choice words of his own afterward, telling reporters Clarkson “seems to turn away at the tougher guys,” and “say ‘no’ a lot,” when asked to fight.

Speaking of Dubinsky — his hand injury occurred just 3:03 into the first period last night and forced him from the game. Upon watching the video, it’s surprising Dubi didn’t leave with a jaw injury:

The Rangers will update Dubinsky’s status today, though Larry Brooks of the New York Post was quick to speculate that, if it’s any kind of hand fracture, Dubinsky is “likely to miss a considerable number of the 17 games that remain before the season concludes one month from today.”

UPDATE: Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News confirms that Dubinsky wasn’t on the ice at today’s practice.

Based on the video, Dubinsky might want to be careful of who he fights and what he says in the future. PUNK!

Duby is a stand-up guy who will scrap with almost anybody….all these guys have mouths, and he is no punk. Stop hating

I find it hysterical that Dubinsky broke his hand on Carters face and then had to leave the game. Carter went on to score a goal and played the entire game. If he wants to call someone out, he should place a call to cam janssen, who can also oblige him and would also kick his ass.

I find it hilarious that all reporters and now dumba$$ Devils fans think Dubinsky broke his hand, when actually what happened is he has a sinus issue from taking a fist to the face..

Hey Devils fans: Don’t get so bent out of shape that Dubinsky will fight all comers, and not worry Bout their size, whereas a guy like Clarkson will actually run around, throw elbows, leave his feet and only fight lightweights like Dubi. There are many reasons that NYR is in first, and NJD is not, REAL toughness being one of them. Enjoy your first round exit.

In a year that Clarkson has as many goals as Dubinsky has total points, he can be a bit more selective in who he battles. 26 goals and a key role on the PP for David versus 7 for Dubie and a not so key role on the 4th line so you can see that Brandon has to take the “fight all comers” strategy….

Winning that first round 7 game series will not be a slam dunk for a Rangers team that while very good has not been playoff battle tested. If they can get by that one, not easier obviously as they move down the path but the first one will be a real test whether it be Winnipeg, Washington or a potentially very hot Buffalo team.
