During the broadcast they said the refs talked to the Caps bench and were told that it was latched but the force of the impact opened it. Coming from the caps players and staff, of course, but I don’t see any reason to make a controversy of it. I remember the buffalo one with the video showing a player opening it as the check happened… I’m sure if there was any similar video here it would have already been brought to light.

any answers on why the door could come open? happened last year and turned out that a player had flipped the latch (buffalo versus flyers). talk about dangerous – nhl had altered the glass by the benches to prevent some of the injuries.

Not a big hockey enthusiast, but, that’s one thing I enjoy about the sport. There is a true bond between teammates and it shows when something like that happens. Hartnell felt that he needed to step up after his player was hit and I respect that, good to see guys standing up for one another.

This is why the NHL is the best. One of the leagues top goal scorers sacrifices his body for the sake of a teammate…. and then in classic Hartnell fashion, falls down.

I just checked on my phone and the video won’t show on the NBC Sports Talk app or on the browser. Seems like youtube videos are the only ones that work on this site when I browse on my phone.
