Impact was to the chest/ shoulder. Concussion was as a result of whiplash.

You are totally right about this. I don’t care what the fingers indicate. I know I’ve not been paying close attention. Roenick was right about this one. Letang puts himself in a vulnerable position by trying to poke the puck around Nystrom with the intent of going around him to make a play. Nystrom is not going to get to the puck, he has to play the angle to contain Letang. As soon as Letang lunges forward, Nystrom has no choice but to accelerate into Letang. If Nystrom waits and doesn’t eliminate Letang, he either gets beat or has to take a penalty for interference/ holding/ hooking when Letang goes around him. He has to body check Letang because that’s the only way to eliminate him from the play.

you dont need to hit the head to get a concussion. its often the whiplash effect that causes it. concussions are caused by the brain moving in the skull, you dont have to hit the head to rattle the brain

Letang, like countless others before him, would have benefited by wearing a college-style mask on this type of play to reduce the force of the impact. Visors offer no protection on anything below the eyes.

His symptoms are “not dramatic” because the hit was not a direct headshot, unlike what Mike Milbury asserts. I imagine the concussion would be a lot worse had he actually been directly hit in the dome.

you can try to spin it how you want but its never a good to get 2 concussions back to back. doubt he will be back before the playoffs, if he even makes it back at all this year. sucks. pens were average to poor without him this year.
