Dear Steve,

I have been watching you play since day one. Please don't delude yourself that "getting a little too far out" is your only issue. It's not. Besides, we've been to this dance before. A tweak here and there and you have a good game or two and you think you've got all your demons beat. Then, and we both know this, you will come out and let 6 goals in and get pulled in the early second and we'll be back at square one again. Honestly, I don't blame you. You were rushed up from the minors, you caught the League by surprise, and then Detroit gave the whole NHL the blueprint on how to beat you. It's been all down hill since then. And management, well, we both know they put too much on your shoulders and gave you far, far too little help. I blame Howson and Priest more than I blame you. It simply was not fair to throw money at you, declare you the next messiah, and give you no defensive help and continue to screw up the draft year after year. Who could succeed under those circumstances? No one. But let's be brutally frank - you're a head case, kid. Seriously, you have more wild mood swings then a teenage girl sweating out who will ask her to the prom and what she'll wear. It's not like the press is ripping you a new one everyday. One newspaper in the whole town and they are partial owners of the team! As a guy who was born and raised in NYC, if you played for the Rangers, the NY press corps would eaten you alive after that fiasco in the playoffs. You have it kinda easy here . You're able to fly under the radar to a degree. If you can't make it here, you'l get destroyed anywhere else. Go back to the minors and get yourself a good shrink. You may be able to mount a comeback one day. But until you get your head straight, you're really basically useless.
