not really familiar with this airhead Strachan, but obviously he has not watched much Blackhawks hockey this year. He has been a very valuable 4th line center, good faceoff percentage, always working hard in both ends of the ice, etc. Just today in Detroit game, helped to screen and distract both goaltender Howard and D-man in front of him for the first goal!

Wake up, Strachan!

Also, can’t believe some of the decisions these goofy writers make regarding HOF selections or guys who have not been elected that truly deserved it. Give this job to someone who knows something!

I love Grabner but you gotta have some perspective. Let’s not forget that Grabner was straight out cut in Florida. By a team that had just traded for him.

Even he admitted he wasnt prepared to play while he was there, and well he was absolutley atrocious in Long Island for months (his confidence was so shaken that he tweeted after a game where he had blown mulitiple chances …again, that he “sucked” and “didnt belong in the league) while getting ice time he would never have gotten while in Vancouver.

The fact of the matter is that if Grabs stayed in Van …he’d be in the KHL by now.

Yeah, how silly of me to consider him useless compared to Grabner and a first round pick. So far Ballard’s been a great healthy scratch and number 6 defenseman? His Canucks resume so far consists of several nice hipchecks (many called for clipping) and 14 points in 112 games. He was a healthy scratch for more than half the Stanley Cup run. For a guy that’s supposed to be a good offensive defenseman he sure is good at looking uncomfortable with the puck. But no, how silly of me to consider him and his 4.2 million dollar contract useless.

Joking aside Al Strachan is a horrible journalist, he used to routinely make a jerk of himself on Hockey Night in Canada, his days there have since ended. Perhaps Al Strachan is the most useless “hockey journalist” in the league?

Well Strachan said “useless” – say what you will about Gomez’s awful contract but his puck posession numbers are actually among the best on the Habs, his PDO is absolutely atrocious meaning he’s been very unlucky to be on for so few goals and so many against.. and Monsieur Cunneyworth seems to be able to use him on the powerplay.

Going after Jamal Mayers is pretty mean-spirited but the fact is that he can’t really take a regular shift at even strength, he sure is not going to produce offense .. there’s a reason the guy has bounced around the league between teams with poor forward depth the last several seasons. That being said he’s passable as a penalty killer so that helps.

For my part I’d nominate one of the many goons around the league that can no longer convince NHL players to fight them – Jody Shelley for example.

I never thought Mayers was all that bad. From a value standpoint, wouldn’t we have to go with Scott Gomez? No matter how badly Mayers plays (in ones eyes), at least he’s not playing poorly for that kind of paycheck- that has to count for something, right?

John Scott is easily the most useless. Averages just over 6 minutes of ice time a game, which I was shocked by because I have seen many nights when he only plays 2 shifts. He has only 4 fighting majors, only 1 assist, and is a horrible skater. Not sure you would want a tough guy as a defenceman unless he can play too. I was surprised NYR wanted him at the deadline.
