What does he think things will be like for his players at his “new” deadline? If anything it’ll give the national media that’s in Toronto a chance to focus only on the Leafs (to the extent they don’t already) rather than the 29 other teams. For a smart guy Burke sometimes sounds like an idiot just enjoying the sound of his own voice…

Well, genius, if your team was perfect as is, then why not announce 10 days ago that you’re not making any moves?
Truth is, as others have suggested, that he couldn’t get anything for his scrapheap of a squad, so he’s packaging it up as a confidence move from management. It will be interesting to see what happens in TO when Florida shuts them out tonight.

In his effort to be a “good guy” he’s turning in to a terrible GM. His players are grown-ups that get very well compensated for the hardships associated with the sport. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t feel for the players with families that were affected yesterday. It does mean that Brian Burke as a GM should be worried about building a winning hockey team and nothing else. Not that he owes them something for “working hard for me all season”, not because trade deadline day is stressful for his players.

The reality is that he couldn’t get any deals done, which he tried to cover by saying he doesn’t believe in the deadline. He tried to look like a good guy, but instead he looked like a blithering idiot in charge of a multi-million dollar franchise that can’t seem to find it’s way to the playoffs after years of his (mis)management.

grow a pair and fire your friend the head coach, he is the biggest problem your team has….that and your goalies have no confidence anymore due to said coach jerking them around.
