While the Detroit Red Wings don’t figure to be highly active on deadline day, they are looking for some forward depth help. One name that they’re linked to is Buffalo’s Paul Gaustad.

Kevin Allen of USA Today reports that the Wings will not be in on any trade talks for the big Sabres center today. Meanwhile, Jesse Spector of The Sporting News says that the Wings and Sabres are in talks to send Gaustad to Detroit. Welcome to the silly season, everyone.

If the demands for Gaustad are too high, Detroit’s interests may be turned to that of Columbus forward Samuel Pahlsson. The Blue Jackets were reported earlier this morning as having a host of teams inquiring about the veteran forward. Be it Pahlsson or Gaustad, it appears the Wings are aiming for a center with faceoff winning abilities and defensive skills. Pahlsson and Gaustad are both free agents at the end of this season.
