PHT Morning Skate: Where James Reimer is tossed under the bus

Feb 26, 2012, 9:34 AM EDT

James Reimer AP

PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

James Reimer‘s miserable performance against the Capitals was very much noticed and noted by Leafs coach Ron Wilson. (The Globe And Mail)

And if you think the Maple Leafs goaltending isn’t an issue that will be of concern at the deadline, think again. (TSN)

Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman is hurt again and it’s not sounding too good right now. (Tampa Tribune)

Bet you didn’t have Scott Hartnell on your list as “potential 30-goal scorer” heading into this season, did you? Mark it 30, dude. (CSNPhilly.com)

Luke Fox at Sportsnet tells us he thinks that teams honoring numbers rather than retiring them is total crap. (Sportsnet)

The Hurricanes may wind up being the worst shootout team of all time this season. Again. Congrats, guys! (News & Observer)

The Ducks are going to ride Jonas Hiller like a pony. A very well used pony. (OC Register)

Finally, watch Ottawa’s Chris Neil throw a thunderous hit on Boston’s Johnny Boychuk that even hurts us to watch. (NHL)

Poor Reimer, Toronto will completely ruin him. He seems like a very humble and down to earth guy in his interviews.

He is a great guy no doubt, yet another Leaf that had a touch of success where the entire Leaf nation went overboard on him.

      Leafs suck
(btw Kadri and Schenn suck too and the league knows it)

It’s really unfortunate. Those fans booing him and leaving early are an embarrassment.

someone for the love of Jebus trade for Josh Harding. the Wild (my Wild) don’t need him and he deserves a chance to be a #1, not to mention we would love more draft picks :)

I would really like someone to take Backstrom over Harding but that will never happen

What were the leafs defense doing on those goals? Too easy to blame James. The leafs defense lead by their embarrassing captain can’t get the puck out of their own end and routinely let opposing players into the slot.

The whole team was standing around during the first. If they’re going to come out and start what’s basically a playoff game like that it’s not Reimer’s fault. Sure he looked bad on those goals but you’re right, the Leafs D looked worse.

Wow, that Neil hit is just about perfect. If more guys in the league were able to figure out how to throw a shoulder into a chest instead of an elbow to the head this game would be a lot better off.

If only the Leafs has something to give up for Schnieder… they’d probably give away the farm.

Best thing for Reimer (and the Leafs) would be for him to go to a low-pressure situation AWAY from Allaire and rebuild his confidence and game somewhere in the AHL – as far as the Leafs go they are pretty much where they should be in terms of rebuilding….instead of needing just a Pronger-style shutdown D-man and a real coach they now also need a goaltender…right on track for contending starting in about 2014 or so (if all goes perfectly)……forget playoffs til about then….

Burke should be selling if he gets into the deadline free-for-all..dump players like Komisarek, Armstrong, McArthur, etc. for young players and picks (if possible) and just forget this season….in the summer give Eakins a shot over retreads like Carlyle… nothing to lose, right?
