The simple truth is though that nobody who isn’t French Canadian wants to play in Montreal. Currently Montreal has become an absolutely atrocious environment to play in. Playing in any of the big three Canadian cities is tough enough but Montreal takes it to a whole new level. There’s so much political BS tied into the team right now and such a wildly unrealistic expectation as well. There’s a reason Montreal hasn’t had an especially good team in ages and this is it.

The highest taxes in North America, a mandatory French education for newcomers, a bad team, a lame duck GM, a lame duck coach, a pressure-inducing racist anti-English, anti-Canada fanbase and a foaming-at-the-mouth media that will do anything, including making up or setting up a situation, to get a front-page story. What’s not to like?
