Watch Evgeni Malkin’s Mario Lemieux-like goal of the year candidate

Feb 25, 2012, 4:01 PM EDT

Evgeni Malkin is putting in one of the best seasons in the NHL this year and now Dwayne Roloson and Brett Clark can give you a first-hand tale about just how good it is.

During Pittsburgh’s 8-1 thrashing of Tampa Bay, not only did Malkin score a hat trick his second goal was one that we’ll be talking about the rest of the way after dancing through the Lightning defense including a move past Clark that left him wondering just where Malkin went to. Roloson, who allowed all eight tallies, was helpless to stop Malkin whose move brought back memories of Mario Lemieux.

Consider the hat trick revenge for Malkin who was jumped on earlier in the game by Roloson during a goal mouth scrum. For now, just sit back in amazement at the moves of Dancin’ Geno.

  4. goalieguy37 - Feb 25, 2012 at 4:14 PM

he beat all 6 lightning players on the ice! sooooooo sick!
    Malkin for MVP!

Not that Geno needs any motivation but Roloson kind of gave him a cheap shot while he was laying on the ground in the crease when Geno could have run him over but didn’t. So then he goes and scores a hatty and this little gem was the 2nd. the guy is on fire right now, hope he keeps it up when it matters, late May and early June!

Well, that’s because you just suck out loud.

  7. rca26 - Feb 25, 2012 at 4:41 PM

Shouldn’t it have to be against an actual goalie to count for goal of the year?

    (….sigh.)

  8. psujay - Feb 25, 2012 at 4:48 PM

    Sick.

  9. gretzkyoneyzermantwo - Feb 25, 2012 at 5:01 PM

Not even close to goal of the year, but a great goal
And the Hart is allllllll but wrapped up.

    • gretzkyoneyzermantwo - Feb 25, 2012 at 5:21 PM

To you thumbs downs, Lars Eller and Pavel Datsyuk have scored much much better this year, And many others and when TSN does their “Goal of the year” this Malkin goal won’t be nominated top 5.

Ohh wait, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight Pens fans have zero objectively, thumbs down away you casual hockey fans.

      • gretzkyoneyzermantwo - Feb 25, 2012 at 5:22 PM

And oh ya, it’s not even Malkin’s best goal this season, not even 2nd best, maybe 3rd

Mario should start acting like a real owner and do something about Crosby, in view of the fact he no longer needs him. Waive him or trade him or have someone take him out back and show him what a real concussion is. C’mon Lemieux, its your money, what has Sid done for you lately?
