Rick Nash’s agent wants to see a deal done by the deadline

Feb 25, 2012, 4:53 PM EDT

While the rumors about where Rick Nash is headed are picking up, including today’s latest rumor involving the Rangers, Nash’s agent is trying to help speed things along.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie tweets that Nash’s agent, Joe Resnick, would like to see things pick up and see his client dealt before the trade deadline on Monday afternoon.

Resnick is basically saying that if the Blue Jackets and GM Scott Howson think things will change if they wait until the  summer to figure things out nothing will change with Nash or his desires to be sent out of Columbus.

In essence, get things done sooner rather than later or else things will get awfully uncomfortable for the rest of the season.

I hope he goes somewhere. I want to see what Rick Nash can do with some good talent around him.

I said it 4 weeks ago…and I am saying it today – Nash is going to the Wings. I have an iside source in the Wings organization, and he says this is all but a “done deal”.

Honestly, who cares? It’s a foregone conclusion that Nash is going to get traded at some point. It’s not like he’s gonna change his mind and refuse to waive his NTC if you piss him off by waiting till the summer. Nor does waiting till summer diminish his value at all. There’s no reason not to hold out for the best possible deal if you’re Columbus.

The last time I checked, agents don’t get to make trades. Columbus would be wise to wait until the off-season, I think – unless someone blows them away with an offer at the deadline.

This guy is average at best, why the hype on a 60 pt man?

    • httv14 - Feb 25, 2012 at 8:55 PM

Anybody who has actually watched Nash play knows that he is not an average player.

Nash being a 60 point man on the worst team in the league is quite a feat. Oh, and by the way, a hockey player’s skill isn’t based on numbers alone. You must be a video gamer that thinks a player has to have a hat trick every game in order to be considered good.

Chances are you’re trolling, but I’ll answer your question regardless: consider the fact that he consistently puts up 30+ goals/season despite the rather underwhelming players around him. There’s your hype.

    • obamablowz - Feb 25, 2012 at 8:17 PM

No trolling here….Would you consider Jeff Carter a stud scoring 40 goals with talent around him? He is a nice avg player all. Don’t understand the mancrush on this guy.

You can’t compare Carter and Slick Stick Nash. Nash actually works hard for his goals. Carter floats and allows his teammates to fish the puck out of the corners. He fires everything on net. Let’s not get it twisted.

Agree to disagree, think he was overrated 7 years ago and has not progressed into a star. We’ll see I after this season.

I’m curious, Joe. Where the hell do you come up with that? Nash has a pro since day one. Believe me, even though this is the worse Jackets team he has been on, he’s been on terrible Jackets teams before. All he ever did was hustle, work hard, and “complain” that he would love to win games in the post-sason for Columbus. Awfully uncomfortable? Aren’t YOU being awfully dramatic? The agent said his list of teams won’t change. That’s an agent doing an agent’s job. He’s trying to make sure the three stooges (McConnell, Priest, and Howson) don’t think they can force Rick to accept a trade to ANY team. He is saying Rick has a contract and he’s willing to bend to a degree, but don’t think you can fleece my client. Nash has NEVER been a disruptive force in the locker room. In fact, the biggest complaint is he’s too quiet. To act like Nash is going to throw a Carter-like tantrum is just poor journalism.

I can only hope the Rangers don’t trade for him. Whoever gets him is going to have to give up too much. Great guy, great team player, but the Rangers already have a great team with great chemistry. Let Philly give up the farm to get him.

Nash will look great in a Red Wing jersey!
