P.K. Subban keeps getting in fights – with his teammates

You know the old line with agitating players: “You hate the guy until he’s on your team.”

Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban might be the exception to that rule. The Canadian Press reports that Subban got in yet another practice scuffle, this time with David Desharnais. Take a moment to enjoy the fly-on-the-wall coverage of the kerfuffle:

Subban dumped his teammate to the ice and as Desharnais got up, he cross-checked and slashed Subban.

Other players stepped in before the confrontation got out of hand.

With that in mind, here’s the tally of teammates that Subban has infuriated to the point of violence this season: Desharnais, Mathieu Darche, Louis Leblanc and Tomas Plekanec. Things also got pretty heated between Subban and an assistant coach, not to mention all the opponents who want him to suffer a painful fate.

Josh Gorges describes the frequent practice fights as “a mere coincidence” and it’s undeniable that more defeats tend to equal more fights, but you’d be zany to deny that a pattern is forming for the petulant but talented D-man.

On the bright side, he seems to get along quite well with Carey Price:

24 guys were on the charter to Washington…

Trades are imminent so the stress level is through the roof.

I have never liked slewban. Hope he straightens up ,otherwise what a waste of a talent.

I agree, but no one is at practice. Could it be that P.K. is the one who is competing hard at practice and his teammates cant handle it. He is such a talent and could easily be the best defenseman in the NHL. He has such a rare set of talents. I agree he needs to smarten up but in this case we cant say whether or not he is to blame. I remember the days when fights in practice were portrayed as a good thing.

        From the source article:

“Habs coach Randy Cunneyworth said disputes happen because Subban practises as hard as he plays in games.”

Meanwhile, the team’s potheads Cheech (Gomez) & Chong (AK46) are the complete opposite and also got into a fight with the same assistant coach for not playing hard in both practices and games.

I didn’t think players practiced slew-footing on their own teammates. You learn something new everyday, I guess.

It’s cause he’s black. Oops I mean because he doesn’t speak French.

    • barkar942 - Feb 23, 2012 at 9:35 PM

If you say he is black, that is not PC. But, the French can say the coach must speak French and that is ok. And Obama declares himself to be black, and just now ignores the fact that he is half Caucasian and the media lets that one go.
Maybe Tim Thomas is on to something here………………………!
Don’t worry, mydadyourmom. I called Dale Earnhart Jr. a redneck on another forum just the other day! OOPS! My Bad!

Not gonna lie, I hate Subban. He takes cheap shots and then won’t stand up for himself. He is immensely talented and it would be great if he would stop being a dirty punk and just be a great defenseman.

I think he has an issue with short people….Marchand now Dashernais…I see a trend and I’m sure the list will get longer.

  7. habsman - Feb 23, 2012 at 11:09 PM

Just saw the film of the “fight.” Total exageration.

This is the second inflamatory post by James O’Brien in the past couple of hours. I guess scunbags in Boston extends to media members as well.

    • James O'Brien - Feb 23, 2012 at 11:42 PM

As much as the “scunbag” descriptor burns, I’m at least 1,000 miles away from Boston. Not that I wanted to tread on your otherwise accurate zingers, mind you …

      • habsman - Feb 23, 2012 at 11:50 PM

        Fair enough…..

      • homelanddefense - Feb 24, 2012 at 10:04 AM

Maybe Habsman should have a clue about what he is saying before he posts something.

      • back2backbees - Feb 24, 2012 at 11:12 AM

James – don’t feed the troll

    • solador78 - Feb 24, 2012 at 1:50 PM

Obviously no one besides Habsman saw the video or heard the coach’s comments because this is an obvious case of TSN distorting the truth.

And I thought *I* was bad at calling out the blog posters…

    Karma?

  9. banshee950 - Feb 24, 2012 at 8:07 AM

wow what dysfunction, the Habbies can’t even suck as a cohesive team. sad sad days. glad my team isn’t pinning its hopes on this clown. silver lining though, with this mild winter, even in Canada the golf courses should be in spectacular shape by the first week in Apr. enjoy!

  10. pl4tinum514 - Feb 24, 2012 at 11:08 AM

Dont worry about it. What doesn’t kill these other pussies on the team makes them stronger.

  11. drewsylvania - Feb 24, 2012 at 3:59 PM

He’s now been in as many fights (2) with his teammates as with opponents this year. He dives, cheapshots, and laughs about it when he won’t drop with the guy he cheapied.

    Locker room cancer?
