Luongo is an absolute stud. Hasn’t lost back to back games in regulation all year. Can’t believe what a hard time he gets from Van fans. Takes his team to the Final and is labeled a choker, what a joke.

As a Red Wings Fan… I love it and I like Luongo.

Wouldn’t have it ANY OTHER WAY. Either you beat one of the best or you lose to one of the best in a high profile situation.

There’s no downside… except for the Canucks afterward. ; )

He is quoted right in the article “I didn’t say we were going to beat them,” so I don’t see how this is particularly bold – he’s saying he is geared up to play, and unless he gets ventilated out there tonight I don’t see how he’d look bad for saying that.

But then he didn’t “taunt” Thomas in any meaningful way last year so I am guessing you’re probably more interested in what people have to say about Luongo’s statements than reading the statements themselves.

Every game for Luongo is a “put up or shut up” moment – when he has bad game local yahoos will be burning up call in radio shows and message boards that night about how we should trade/waive/publicly flog him, and the next morning you know the seeds will be planted in one of the papers for the latest goalie ‘controversy.’

So this is no different really.

As for Lou’s actual comments I really don’t see anything remarkable here (beyond the fact that this is a player who has a long history of saying things people like to claim are regrettable)… everyone in the league likes to play spoiler and for Longo to say that the Wings are a great challenge is hardly bulletin board material – they are.

Oh that’s not criticism. I think it’s a bold move on his part- if it works, he’s a hero. If it doesn’t (like with Tim Thomas-taunting last year), he looks like a jackass. It’s 50/50, and I’ll be very interested to see what we’re saying tomorrow about him as a result.

This is one of those ‘put up or shut up’ moments now. If the Canucks can go into Detroit tonight and lose, Luongo looks like an idiot. If they win, he looks like he’s giving his team motivation to win a big game. I’ll be very interested to see how he performs tonight. (Not facing Datsyuk can only help).
