Looks like Todd Bertuzzi’s getting a two-year extension

Since re-landing in Detroit, Todd Bertuzzi‘s been a big man with savvy skills for the Red Wings. His ability to help move the offense and as well as his shootout abilities have helped him stick around and be productive.

Now his agent, Pat Morris, is saying that he’ll be sticking around Detroit for another couple of seasons. Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press hears from Morris that the two sides are working things out and a deal could be announced as soon as tomorrow.

Bertuzzi has 12 goals and 29 points this season while riding shotgun alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen on Detroit’s top line. When Wings GM Ken Holland brought Bertuzzi back as a free agent before the 2009-2010 season, many Wings faithful wondered why as Bertuzzi’s first stint in Detroit in ’06-’07 as a deadline pickup didn’t go well at all.

Since then, he’s persevered after spins with Anaheim and Calgary and has made Detroit his home for the last three seasons. Love him or hate him, and there’s plenty that do, he’s been a steady producer in Detroit — a fact that probably makes him disliked all the more.

And the old continue getting older. Glad the franchise does not throw money away on a 12 goal role player. Ray Shero wouldn’t pay this guy to cut his lawn

Proof that sometimes a good can rehabilitate himself into a solid NHL player. I cannot and will not forgive what happened to Steve Moore, but I at least can respect that in the years since, he hasn’t continued that style of play. Good move by Detroit to lock him up for another couple of years- despite being a bit streaky, he’s a heck of a power forward at a decent price.

I still just cant get over the Steve Moore incident, its one of the most F’ed up things in modern hockey, and I will have a deep hatred for Bertuzzi pretty much no matter what. Does anyone know if the Moore family won their case a few years ago against him?

Not to my knowledge, but to be fair I don’t get to keep up on Avs news as well as I used to since I don’t live in Denver anymore. Might be worth looking into as a ‘where are they now’ style article sometime on this site though *poking the writers with a sharp stick*.

thats the dirty D employing this monster. who else would? exactly. the franchise has spoken

  3. mrskunitzdrippinlips - Feb 22, 2012 at 10:40 AM

lord shero knows better than to pay 40 year old hackbags money. this detroit team never seems to suprise me, they obviously dont know how to do business well. whats the over/under on days one of these old men are going to have a heart attack on ice?

  4. jamesmakesurmomneal - Feb 22, 2012 at 10:45 AM

Bertuzzi is one off all time dirtiest players, only a classless team would reward such a player. And when did the NHL stop testing for steroids? Roid rage is clearly a factor in this guys anger problems. Wake up shanny and do something before this monster strikes again

I thought we got rid of the trolls?

    • fleurysteeth - Feb 22, 2012 at 12:02 PM

the SoupCan Army is making some valid points while supporting the franchise at the same time. just calm down and stop tattling to your daddy Halford. the funnest part about sports talk is talking trash. we are dudes. jesus. act like one.

  6. federovs4skn - Feb 22, 2012 at 12:23 PM

detroit is the best hockey team in the world. stop saying otherwise or I’m telling halford on you guys

  7. cspuck7 - Feb 22, 2012 at 1:44 PM

    @james
But Shero will pay 5 mil a year to Paul Martin to be the fourth best defenseman on the team…thats money well spent…

  8. sportsfreak13 - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:03 PM

federovs4skn, fleurysteeth, jamesmakesyourmomneil, and mrskuntiz are al the same person who thinks he’s humorous by posting garbage on this site. In a way we should feel bad for this person because these posts are the highlights of his day. You can talk trash while being respectful. Example is martins contract is better then prongers whos cap hit still counts because holmgrenn gave such a long contract to someone over 36.

I’m sure there’s half a dozen other names. Pity they’re all still here.

      • federovs4skn - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:23 PM

hey i love the red wings, dont put me in the same class as the franchise!

      • govtminion - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:30 PM

…yes, we’re all dumb enough to believe something like that. Give it up and get back to your middle school classes, will you?

  9. jamesmakesurmomneal - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:25 PM

What makes all u troll feeders so convinced that I am the same as these other posters? Only thing worse than a troll is sportsfreak, the guy who threatened people with violence

    • drewsylvania - Feb 22, 2012 at 4:38 PM

There’s always habsman, who trailed around behind me like a lost schoolgirl.

  10. sportsfreak13 - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:31 PM

Never threatened you with violence, just offering you the chance to meet me in person.

    • sportsfreak12 - Feb 22, 2012 at 3:54 PM

who would ever want to meet this non original copy cat. here everyone is trying to talk about an amazing franchise, the one with the best talent, the best fans, and the best sports blog commentators ,and all this violent imitator wants to do is complain about trolls. you need to be more original number 13. james neal doesnt want his loyal army meeting you at his signing.

  11. geo91 - Feb 22, 2012 at 5:47 PM

I’m not sure how I feel about this yet, if the price is between 1-1.5 cap hit per year I’d say it’s a very solid signing. My only knock on him is surprisingly he doesn’t play mean/physically enough at times.
