Leafs GM Burke’s meeting with Jackets GM Howson wasn’t about Nash

Leafs GM Brian Burke confirmed that he had an “unscheduled meeting” with Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson, but Burke did throw a wrench in the Rick Nash-to-Toronto rumors that have circulated as a result.

“I was there on other business,” Burke said.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Toronto won’t trade for Nash, but at the same time, the chances of such a deal happening aren’t great. Nash’s $7,800,000 annual cap hit combined with Howson’s reportedly high asking price would make it hard for Burke and Howson to come to an agreement. Still, we can say with relatively certainty that this isn’t the last we’ll hear about the possibility of a Nash trade before the Feb. 27 deadline.

I hate those jerseys. That style its like 8 teams wear the exact same jersey or something. Did The Pens start it with their Winter Classic ones & everyone else copied it? I can’t remember where it originated.

I hate the Penguins blue jerseys so bad. They are just awful.
The first Penguins Winter Classic were the light blue ones and they change them for the Caps game.

During a roundtable of CLB beat reporters, they all agreed that virtually everyone on the roster with the exceptions of Johannsen and Moore are on the table as far as trades. Howson and Burke were no doubt discussing a trade, just not Nash’s. With Carter known to be up for grabs and Grabovski proving difficult to sign, a trade sending Grabovski to CLB and Carter to TOR is an obvious possibility.

Shame. Johansen would be a good thing for Toronto. Skilled passing centres are a thing they need quite badly. Grabovski’s really just about as good as it gets for them right now.

Burke likes to play the media. He’s doing a good job of it if you believe Nash’s name didn’t come up during that meeting.
