Here’s your latest Patrick Kane-for-Ryan Miller rumor

Feb 16, 2012, 11:42 AM EDT

Kane Miller

Andy Strickland of The Fan 590 St. Louis and TrueHockey.com has a rather interesting spin on the chimerical Patrick Kane-for-Ryan Miller trade — you know, the one nobody wants to validate but has set the interweb on fire nonetheless.

In the article, Strickland brings up several key points.

–Jeremy Roenick’s comments that Chicago could “afford to get rid of” Kane weren’t pulled out of a hat:

There are some Blackhawk people who internally understand if they are to get the guy they want they would need to give up something big. I’m not suggesting they’re shopping Kane but these talks do tend to pop up around the office every now and then.

– Miller has lingering frustrations with Buffalo and would welcome a move:

Sources close to Miller confirm his frustration with the Sabres organization and tell me he’d waive his modified no-trade clause to go to Chicago.

I’ve heard the speculation that Miller would only accept a trade to Los Angeles or Anaheim so he could be closer to his actress wife Noureen DeWulf. I’m told this is completely untrue. Miller wants to win and he’s apparently open to go to a number of teams, not just those located in So Cal

Again, I’m told he’d jump at the opportunity to go to Chicago.

– The Sabres don’t appear to be on board:

The Sabres thought they had it figured out last summer once owner Terry Pegula took over the franchise. They thought they could buy their way into contending for a Stanley Cup and it appears they’re taking a step backwards. Sources close to the organization tell me they aren’t looking to rebuild but are looking to re-scale their roster.

Sources say Miller has not been approached by the organization regarding a potential trade.

So there you have it.

Let me start off by saying I am Darcy Regier supporter, maybe one of the few. But if this trade really is available to Buffalo and Darcy doesn’t pull the trigger, everything the critics have been saying about him would be true. This team can’t score and you have the chance to get a 23 year old superstar forward for a goalie who is running short on prime years, you have to pull the trigger.

No doubt, especially if you can get back Emery to help shoulder the load with Enroth. Perhaps they look elsewhere for an interim goalie, but unless they have serious doubts about Kane, he’d be a help to them for sure.

its just such a bad move for chicago. theres no reason to think miller will save this team right now, the primary problem is defense and toughness.

if bowman cant see this then thats a huge issue

      • elvispocomo - Feb 16, 2012 at 1:54 PM

Well, I guess they could see what Huet’s doing. I mean, he is under contract with them still and they have cap space…

    • hawksandsawx - Feb 16, 2012 at 1:58 PM

@rarelyshaves While the defense and toughness are an issue, if you don’t think this team needs a giant upgrade in net your living in a dream world. During the current slide the Hawks have given up at least three goals in EVERY SINGLE GAME. Including the loss to Nashville, where the Preds only had 18 shots. The defense and overall toughness definitely need to improve, but its the NHL and there has to be games your goalie wins for the team.

See what I mean about Kanes Massive over-ratedness? “Superstar”

On what freakin planet is Kane a Superstar?
Not even a Top 30 forward in the NHL is a “Superstar”

      What a joke

    • gretzkyoneyzermantwo - Feb 16, 2012 at 2:13 PM

And all you Sabres fans who have complained about Roy defensively all season, Kane is the exact same player but younger and with better linemates

  2. buffalomafia - Feb 16, 2012 at 1:41 PM

    @travishenryskid- regeire sucks!

Sabres should trade roy & gaustad to montreal for price!

    Second trade miller for kane!

Kane would be mad to play for a bad sabres team & then stay til end of season then go to a contender.

Miller would win cup in chicago & then go to LA or Anaheim next season!

    Did I say Regeire stinks!

buffalomafia is on really really good drugs

  4. buffalomafia - Feb 16, 2012 at 2:33 PM

Your right the sabres are to small & cant fight just like pat kane!

  5. buffalomafia - Feb 16, 2012 at 2:34 PM

Watch the Sabres vs Philly game tonight. Not one Sabre will win a fight! Wait…. They might if they bring up Kassian!

  6. wez99 - Feb 16, 2012 at 3:31 PM

buffalo mafia, SHUT UP!!!!! you have absolutely no idea at allllll what you’re talkin about when you comment on here. then you make us buffalo sabres fans look dumb because of your crazy thoughts and ideas. your frustrated with the season, so is everyone else, but your being crazy in every article about the sabres!! and we are not trading miller!! especially for kane (i love kane, but thats a lost in our deal, enroth is not ready yet), just smoke your weed or do whatever drugs your doing, away from your computer, to everyone else, i’m sorry for his comments

  7. realnostalgia - Feb 16, 2012 at 3:49 PM

Lets compare Ray Emery to Ryan Miller. THIS SEASON. I know MIller’s History and don’t want to argue about it. Most of these trade rumors are around the fact that if the blackhawks want to win NOW they need to get a new goalie.

    Ryan MIller GGA – 2.75 31st
    Ray Emery GGA – 2.82 35th

    Ryan MIller SVPCT – 9.09 30th
    Ray Emery SVPCT – 8.99 42nd

There is NO WAY I would give up Patrick Kane for a goalie that is performing this season barely better than the one we already have.

    • braddavery - Feb 16, 2012 at 4:22 PM

Everyone knows Miller is having his worst season as a pro. IF Chicago was truly interested, it’s not based on this season’s performance. Miller is a FAR better goalie than Emery regardless of this season. The change of scenery could be good for him THIS season and then for next season and beyond, you have a top-tier goalie. This trade won’t happen anyway.

      • realnostalgia - Feb 16, 2012 at 6:53 PM

I agree with you on many points. First, MIller is a phenomenal goalie that is just having a bad season. He is also way better than Ray Emery. The change of scenery could do him some good but honestly would you risk a young player with huge upside like Patrick Kane on the chance that he will play better in chicago as he gets even older?

  8. buffalomafia - Feb 16, 2012 at 5:46 PM

@wez99- your probably a mediocre guy just like the Sabres!

I bet you have a fat ass wife, drive a rusty station wagon, eat pork rinds & liverwerst sandwhiches and think the Sabres are going to get into the playoffs!

I don’t do drugs & I speak the truth! Fire Ruff & Regeire! And owner Terry Pegula doesn’t have a clue about hockey! He is to much of a fan!

I think you need a hug from your mommy.

      !!!

  9. leninthebuff - Feb 16, 2012 at 6:47 PM

Marcy Darcy and Ruff have been together since 97 and have done practically nothing, Pegula has to stop being a star stuck kid and get his head out of his azz and at least fire Marcy Darcy or both after this season since the playoffs are out of reach now. Bring in Dudley as GM and start to rip apart this team during the summer. Trade the UFA’s this year and get what you can for them. Personally I would do what it takes to trade Myers to Nashville for Weber, Myers is nothing but a p***y. As for Kane for Miller, no way we need another smallish center who in time would be a cancer in the dressing room. If your going to trade Miller then go to Anaheim and get a Getzlaf or Ryan…add Roy or Stafford plus a draft pick or prospect and get Hiller also.

@leninthebuff- about time someone makes sense!

I do not see Kaner leaving Chicago. Simple as that.
