Seattle has a decent hockey community. It is no canada but there are150 adult hockey teams, 7 rinks within 30 minutes and 2 Major Junior hockey clubs. Yes they will be 4th on the professional sports depth chart but I feel there will be plenty of hockey fans that would never have gone to a mariners or sonics game in the area.

The problem with Phoenix was that their arena is an hour's drive to nowhere from the Phoenix metropolitan area and wasn't drawing the critical mass from the city.

Seattle has a population size similar to Denver which supports 4 teams. For hockey in Seattle, the key will be getting a competitive team like Phoenix that plays .500 hockey which will draw (and create) an adequate number of fans right off the bat. If Seattle gets an expansion team, which I doubt, that will lose a lot of games for its first few years, Hockey will struggle at the gate and eventually meet the same fate as Atlanta, if they can somehow buy out of the lease.

I'm still skeptical about this move if Seattle gets an NBA team. I know Seattle's a large market, are great supporters of the Seahawks (one of the louder stadiums on tv) & that the Sonics leaving had nothing to do with the fans (& everything to do about an arena) but I'm still skeptical on the ability to support the NHL. Their going to be 4th on the depth chart (Seahawks, Brewers/Sonics, Hockey Team) with no chance to ever be more then that, just like Phoenix was

"If that’s the case, coordination between the NHL and NBA will be paramount. Hey, good thing the NHL owns the Phoenix Coyotes and the NBA owns the New Orleans Hornets."

My money's on the Kings moving to Seattle before New Orleans.
