Uhh….that’s why they’re called H-I-T-S, not T-A-P-S.

You see, when you “HIT” someone on the ice, you’re looking to rock them. It’s intended. It’s the way the game is played and should be played.

You need to go back and watch the replay (and, if necessary, put your glasses on).
The Brier hit – BOTH skates are still on the ice at the point of impact.
The Kesler hit – one skate is still in contact with the ice at the point of impact.
Yeah, he’s hitting them on the way up, but hasn’t totally left the ice surface.
Read the rules and get your eyes checked, or STFU.

If the safety of the players is the league’s primary concern, then any hit where the man leaves his feet to administer the hit should lead to a suspension. This is an INTENTIONAL act to inflict greater damage.

Wings fan here – worth mentioning right off the bat

He definately leaves his feet for the Kesler hit, but i dont think it looked like he did for the Briere hit

I also want to apologise to the Flyer fans and management who collectively had heart attacks when they realised it was Briere who got hit ( who just got back from a concussion )

Also – LOVE that Philly didnt see the need to start throwing fists to retaliate. Seems like every freakin’ time somebody throws a big hit thats CLEAN, people still gotta fight you about it. Play the game people.

Kronwall’s never been suspended. Not under Campbell. Not under Shanahan.

He’s been making that hit for years. If it were illegal, someone in the NHL would’ve sat him down. They haven’t. They won’t.

These are good, hard, opportunistic hockey plays. I wouldn’t like it if my guys got my Kronwalled either, but that doesn’t make it illegal.

Has the thought ever crossed anyone’s mind that the momentum of running over someone might take you off your feet AFTER contact? He doesn’t jump into these hits, and that’s why there’s no suspensions or even penalties. These are pure.

He left his feet to hit Briere. Which means it’s a charge at the very least. So the refs blew that one. To me it seems that Kronwall, in trying to deliver high hits with his back, is trying to get away with illegal hits by making them not LOOK so illegal. I hope Shanahan wises up real quick on this one.

@yettyskills-there is a difference between leaving your feet in an attempt to leap at your opponent and the physics involved in a collision with such force to take you off your feet.

Great idea for Krowall, although leading with your back and your glutious maximus could pose back problems later, so I would lead rear first (insert jokes here, that’s what she said, etc.)

It’s not a bad idea, yout back and your rear is a large amount of mass to run into someone with. It’s like hitting someone with a 1/2 to 5/8″ sheet of plywood that measures around 5′x5′ at someone moving around 10-15mph. It’s bad enough how he hits, but back first must really feel like a Mack truck just ran you over.

@yetty – ok, a little, but that’s pretty common – both were skating, so not typically considered a charging penalty.

I guess we’ll see if after review, Shanny disagrees with me. Shanny has no problem fining/suspending Red Wing players. There’s no favoritism. I’m pretty sure he agrees with me though.

If you think Kronwall did the same thing, what was Briere’s head doing at The Scorpions tail? I’ve heard of pulling your head out of your butt, but not out of someone elses butt… and on the ice…. ; )

I’ll give you it was a good hit, if we can have Rinaldo’s hit that resulted in a 2 minute minor as a good hit as well. Funny how he is getting the call from Shanny for his hit, but this hit by Kronwall is looked as a clean, better hit. I would like if both could be considered nice hits, but i think if you are giong to go after one, you should go after both

He left his feet again, Id rather him lose 2 games in the regular season to get that message that have him do it it the playoffs where everything is under a microscope and lose a game or two then.
I have no problem with anything else, Danny set himself up for it (again) and was lucky to get his head up at the end.

That’s what catches guys like Briere off-guard… what Kronwall does isn’t humanly possible…. for MOST defense-men.

Wouldn’t this be considered reckless/unsafe under the guidelines set forth nowadays?
While I don’t find it illegal, if the onus is on the hitter not to make contact with the opponent’s head, how is hitting an opponent with your back turned safe?

Just a thought.

Wings fan and I can say that Kronwall needs a suspension, he keeps leaving his feet, it’s as simple as that. Otherwise it’s totally clean, keep your head up and welcome back to the line-up Danny. LOL
