Ryan Callahan is the leader the Rangers have been waiting for

Feb 12, 2012, 2:16 PM EDT

When Ryan Callahan was named captain of the Rangers it was seen as a no-brainer move by most Rangers fans and outsiders. Callahan is the heart and soul of the team and the guy that not only gets it done playing physically but also by scoring goals.

After a hat trick yesterday against the Flyers and scoring a goal today against the Capitals, he’s one short of his career high.

More importantly for the Rangers, they view him as a guy that leads by example. Check out what the Rangers say about Callahan as well as Pierre McGuire and Mike Milbury’s thoughts on him.

Bought my Callahan Jersey the day of the Lightning game, he has 5 goals since! This guy is the consummate leader, he scores, fights, blocks shots, throws his body around, plays on the PK and PP, and does it every single game. For what the Rangers re signed him for in the offseason, he’s a steal for a guy who does what he does.

Fantasy Hockey stud if your pool has shots, hits, and blocked shots. Which ours does, Callahan averages per game last season was 10th best in our league and this year he is 11th.

    NHL leaders in Hits
    1 Matt Martin Isles
    2 Dustin Brown Kings
    3 Cal Clutterbuck Wild
    4 Ryan Callahan Rangers
    5 Chris Neil Sens
    6 Steve Ott Stars
    7 Luke Schenn Leafs

Only 3 Forwards have blocked more shots, and those 3 are all centers while Callahan is a winger.

Throw in his 21 goals and 19 assists and it’s gold, Fantasy or Reality
