Apparently the Blue Jackets really want to move Jeff Carter

If there’s one player to keep an eye on as the trade deadline approaches, it’s Columbus’ Jeff Carter. We’ve heard all about how he’s not loving life in Ohio and that when the Flyers traded him last offseason it really hurt him personally, thus hurting his trade value.

According to Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch, however, it’s the Blue Jackets and GM Scott Howson that are really pushing hard to get him moved before the trade deadline.

He was traded from a perennial playoff contender to an organization that has never won a playoff game. This season has done nothing to instill confidence that the Blue Jackets are headed on the right path.

So the marriage is soon to end if the Blue Jackets can trade him. Oddly, though, it’s the Blue Jackets who seem most intent on the separation.

Portzline mentions that Los Angeles, Calgary, and possibly Toronto are teams interested in Carter with L.A. likely having to give up young goalie Jonathan Bernier and the Flames giving up Jay Bouwmeester among other pieces to make a deal possible.

Whether or not Columbus can get a deal done for Carter with his monstrous contract is another story entirely. Taking on a guy with over a $5 million cap hit until 2022 is a tough pill to swallow.

Maybe Howson should have stuck to playing NHL 12. Video game general managing doesn’t work in the real world.

what a win for the flyers

Wait what, Columbus wants to rid themselves of a 5 million per season drunk and boarderline coke head?

Maybe the Blue Jackets can hide the fact that he abuses booze and drugs and somehow other GM’s might only see his injury history, playoff history and laziness.

Does he like to party? Yes. Is there any evidence at all that he uses any illegal drugs whatsoever? No. That’s an incredibly ignorant comment.

LOL, well known fact to those in the know that Jeff Carter does blow.

Wanna know who else will do a lil blow after getting hammered? Ron McLean of hockey Night in Canada. 1st hand fact on that one Mr. incredibly ignorant comment.

And in case you did not know, Carter and Richards were both run out of town because they liked to get $hitfaced drunk, and when they did, far too many times they thought it was 1982 and casually did blow like no big deal. Witnessed by far too many far too many times.

        Incredibly ignorant LOL

Here I’ll spill some more beans, When Jason Spezza was 17 he was banging a nice 35 year old MILF in Mississauga. LOL
You ever see him coming off the ice and mention the “Mississauga MILF” and no way he doesn’t crack a smile while playing stupid to the question.
      LOL

I like these stories, please tell us more. Lindros sleeping with a teammate’s wife and Leclair punching in the face. Yetty needs to write a book….

And there is ZERO reason to play attention to this because NO owner is allowing his GM to commit 5 million per into Jeff Garbage Carter until 2022.

    Two Thousand Twenty Two

My question is how did Paul Holmgren manage to get Scott Howson to take Jeff Carter off him in the first place? Did he take him to a hotel and buy him dinner, a few drinks, and a night with a woman of negotiable virtue or did Scott Howson just take his stupid pills that morning?

I am paying attention to this… Trading him to a possible contender will help the fantasy value for me!!

high and wide carter is a good goal scorer (in the reg season)when he has someone to give him the puck….him and nash were never going to work both are shooters….go flyers

Trade him to Pittsburgh for Crosby straight-up. Howson has nothing to lose. Could you imagine where Carter would line up in that already stacked Penguins roster?

    • elvispocomo - Feb 13, 2012 at 2:46 PM

Why the hell would the Pens do that? Even an injured Crosby is better than a healthy Carter considering his contract. They’re playing well without Crosby but no guarantees Carter wouldn’t hurt the team chemistry.

I laughed a little on the weekend to hear Nick Kyprios mention the Canucks were front runners. Not sure how that’d work, since we don’t have the cap space and we already have one long-term contract. And before you say it’s the new Vinny for Roberto deal, we know Luongo would never ok a deal to Columbus, even if he might have a slim chance of doing so for Tampa.
