Callahan’s hat trick makes sure Flyers still can’t beat the Rangers

Feb 11, 2012, 4:58 PM EST

In yet another Winter Classic rematch, the Rangers made sure to keep the Flyers feeling down in the dumps. The Rangers improved to 5-0-0 against the Flyers this season thanks to a 5-2 win that saw Rangers captain Ryan Callahan scoring a hat trick and Marian Gaborik notching four points (1g, 3a) on the day.

The Rangers broke out of their power play woes scoring three times with the man advantage in what was a typically physical and feisty game between the two rivals. With 110 penalty minutes in all in the game and just one more meeting between these two teams this season, their battle atop the Atlantic Division may nearly be at an end, but won’t go out quietly. Philadelphia’s Wayne Simmonds wound up earning a Gordie Howe hat trick after sparring with Brian Boyle.

And I thought Peter Laviolette was supposed to be a “class” guy? Then why does he bring in goons Tom Sestito and Rinaldo with 7 minutes left down 5-2? Obviously the Flyers are STILL the Broad Street Bullies and will never change! Class guy my ptoooty! When will they learn these aren’t the 70’s Rangers!!!

In fairness to Rinaldo, he played a pretty big role in setting up the first Flyers’ goal. And, unlike most of the team, he was playing hard all game. Sestito, yeah, back to the AHL.

Rinaldo is a waste of a hockey player too. He’ll be fined again for the slash on Dubi, just like he was fined for 2 incidents last week. We dont need this trash in the league.

He’s hoping Sestito can take out Callahan like he did Nathan Horton. He’s a worthless goon and should have been suspended for any of a number of dirty hits this season.

    Brian…youre a moron…where have NYR fans been for the past 15 years… Thats what I thought…

    • brian32556 - Feb 11, 2012 at 7:52 PM

Have another jagrbomb, you Neanderthal! You have the same mentality as the team that is rotting in decay.

And we’re going in two different directions…clap clap clap!

  6. jimeejohnson - Feb 11, 2012 at 7:00 PM

That makes 7 wins in a row for the Rangers over the Flyers. Flyers have given up a lot of goals this season for a top tier team. Rangers have got their number.

  7. jagrbomb18 - Feb 11, 2012 at 7:03 PM

Yup…no D no goalie..young team…it’s not phillys year to win anything that’s for sure..I hope they don’t do anything crazy for a D ..just wait till offseason to sign someone…NYR are for real this year I can’t lie but it’s still just regular season …playoff time all these stats don’t mean jack

    • gaborik104life - Feb 11, 2012 at 7:23 PM

Yea Holmgren is gonna be making a trade with CBJ bigger than Carter before the deadline. So as for nothing crazy and waiting till the offseason that is not gonna happen. Three scouts from Columbus were at the game today including the Gm who had a long meeting with Holmgren today. Gm’s don’t fly out for anything small and seeing as how any D man on Columbus would require a phone call being that they are nothing special it has to be for a forward. I doubt Jeff Carter will be going home to philly so you might end up with Nash. Also interesting is Mtl Gm also at the game so as for you not wanting anything crazy to happen all I can say is doubt it.

As for regular season although the playoffs are a different beast this isin’t one game the Rangers have embarrassed your team it’s five including the biggest game in the nhl regular season (winter classic). You also have to be a little concerned that your record against the top ten teams in the league is 8-9-2 so as for when playoffs come around doesn’t sound like flyers are going anywhere.

Ranger fans have been backing they’re team the last 15yrs homie. Flyers are just like the town they are from… clueless and classless

  9. 8man - Feb 11, 2012 at 8:51 PM

The Rangers are playing very well. Looking every bit like the top seed in the Eastern Conference. It’ll be fun watching my Bruins dispatch them in the conference finals.

  11. jagrbomb18 - Feb 12, 2012 at 2:36 AM

Lol so the flyers trading Mtl for Hal gill or a CBJ D is considered a crazy move in NY huh

  12. jagrbomb18 - Feb 12, 2012 at 2:39 AM

Also as I previously stated…it’s not phillys year…so why trade key offensive pieces (JVR is only 22)…rangers fans are like cockroaches…I respect your team but seriously Where have you guys been….

  13. jagrbomb18 - Feb 12, 2012 at 2:41 AM

Brian…if your from Ny you may have the…clap clap clap…

    • brian32556 - Feb 12, 2012 at 6:50 PM

And we have roaches too, and we do to them what we do to the Flyers – squash ‘em!!! And like the Flyers you’re big talk, no substance.
