Knuble a healthy scratch, Backstrom unsure when he’ll play again

A couple of Capitals notes out of Washington ahead of tonight’s game versus the Jets.

First, Mike Knuble will be a healthy scratch for the first time this season. The 39-year-old forward has just three goals in 53 games, so yeah, that’s why. Knuble will be replaced by Jay Beagle.

Second, leading scorer Nicklas Backstrom, out indefinitely since Jan. 3 with a concussion, spoke to a Swedish media outlet recently, and what he said won’t make Caps fans feel too great.

A few translated quotes, courtesy Japers’ Rink:

—- “Two weeks ago I tried to get on the ice for a practice, but I got off after three minutes. It didn’t work. I just wasn’t ready.”

—- “It’s tough, for sure. I don’t do much, basically I have spent much of my time on the couch napping and resting. Sometimes I’ve been at the practice rink, but I try to stay away from it as much as possible. It’s so frustrating for me to be there right now.”

—- “I don’t know when I will be able to play again, but I hope I will be ready for the playoffs.”

5 games seems like nothing for Bourque now. Ovechkin got 3, Bourque with 5 but two totally different circumstances but yet they are so close.

They really should make an intentional elbow like that suspendable for how long the injured player is inactive… Time to send a message

you two still complaining about that non story? injuries are a part of hockey. deal with it. every other team has/does.

that will never happen…time to get a clue

I wouldn’t be surprised if ‘chicken wing’ elbows became an automatic 8 gamer. Would seem fair given the damange they can do….

The problem is how do you judge intent? It’s an issue in the NFL with helmet to helmet hits and roughing the passer.

Something Caps and Pens fans can agree on – concussions to top players blow….
