Hartnell scores goal then drops gloves with Phaneuf

Feb 9, 2012, 9:25 PM EDT

Scott Hartnell has had an All-Star season in both real and fantasy terms thanks to his ability to score and agitate in stunning quantities

Tonight’s Toronto Maple Leafs-Philadelphia Flyers game put that on immediate display, as he fired a puck in the net and then “celebrated” by immediately dropping the gloves with Dion Phaneuf.

That’s two-thirds of a Gordie Howe hat trick in a matter of seconds and Hartnell completed the deal by assisting on a Claude Giroux goal about 14 minutes into the second period.

Say what you will about Hartnell, but he’s taking full advantage of skating with the talented twosome of Giroux and Jaromir Jagr this season … to the chagrin of many.

Hartnell is a tool, and thus fits in well with that Flyers team.

Looking at the replay, it looks like Phaneuf puts him into the boards just prior to the goal. Hate Hartbell but cool string of events…..nothing like celebrating with a fight

Agree with most of the posts – Hartnell is a tool but love the passion and old time hockey. Dangerous to mention Neely in the same sentence with Hartnell but for one moment it is applicable. Give credit where credit is due! Flyers still aren’t winning the Cup;)

That’s actually a Scott Harnell hat trick. He fell down, scored a goal, and got in a fight. God I hope this catches on.

Could a fewd be brewing since the all-star game? I can clearly remember Hartnell skating by the other teams bench and the audio picked him up saying “Suck it Phaneuf”.
