To anyone from Vancouver who wants to talk about how bad Luongo is: you obviously haven’t been watching the nucks for a long time. Otherwise, you would remember the dark ages. For 10 years we could not get a goalie that could win. And we had some decent teams too.

Since Luongo arrived 5 years ago, I’ve watched 10 playoff series, 4 division titles, 1 presidents’, and countless regular season and playoff wins.

We are spoiled – we are used to watching our team win.

You can microanalyze every goal if you want to. You can say he’s a headcase. You can say he’s not a top 5 goalie. You can say he’s overpaid. You can say he doesn’t have what it takes to win a cup. That might all be true.

But here what is also true:
his career numbers are hall-of-fame worthy.
he has proved to be a total workhorse.
the guy has survived 5 years in this ridiculous market. that alone is for the the biggest testament. Vancouver has broken many goalies.
he has been – without any doubt – the best goalie in canucks history, in every stat.
in 10 playoff rounds with Luongo in net, we have ONLY ONCE lost to a team that finished below us in the standings (Boston).

Listen, I love Schneider as much as the next guy – but I have lived through the goalie graveyard era.
I do not want to bank the team on a guy who has played less than 40 games.

Pekka did have one get through him, Kesler’s goal. Just squeaked between his trapper and body after he got a piece of it. Even so, it was a terrific shot on Kesler’s part, Rinne can’t totally be faulted. Both netminders played extremely well after giving up 3 goals, imho. They each bounced back nicely.

Friend … yesterday’s game was the perfect microcosm of exactly why Luongo needs to be traded back to Florida ! Like a box of chocolates, you just never know what you’re going to get with this guy … and the simple fact is that you just can’t have that come playoff time, which is something even Luongo’s most ardent supporters will grudgingly acknowledge. Somehow or someway, the Canucks management need to have a “spaghetti dinner” with this guy and make him see that it’s in “his” interest to immediately surrender his NTC and agree to a return to Florida, where he belongs. I’m already on record here for predicting that this will happen in the summer. I’m now sensing however, that this should probably be done sooner than later … and God willing, it will !

Yah. What a loser, carrying his team to a win after giving up two bad goals. What a schmuck. ;D

Amusingly, the most positive part of this game for Canucks fans was that Luongo was amazing after giving up those soft ones and that he won the shootout. Not a shutout, but still a solid 2 points on the road thanks mostly to Mr. Pathetic.
