I'd argue there are a number of posters (obviously more than a few that wouldn't fit the bill) that could have done a better job with the Jackets for all the opportunities they've had to actually be a better team. If you'd been running the jackets for the last few years, they'd likely be in a better spot than they are now. Hell, I'd take the job if they offered it!

Couldn't agree more- very good points. To add one more- what do you get in return? Draft picks, prospects, the things a team like Columbus normally would want for rebuilding the franchise (assuming you can call it 'rebuilding' if it's always been rubble). But... what have we learned about the staff in Columbus and their ability to draft? Other than Nash, most of their high picks have turned out to be utter crap. So if you trade him off, you get picks that the team will likely just squander anyway.

If I'm running the Jackets- and thank the hockey gods I'm not!- I'd bring in a new GM staff after firing Howson, watch this year's draft and see if you're liking the direction the new guy is going, and THEN seeing what happens. If the team starts looking better, keep Nash and start building. If not, NOW trade Nash and hopefully this new GM can identify talent better than the past couple of GMs.

If the Jackets trade Nash who do they have left? The NHL is all about money. He is their only superstar. He is the only reason for anyone to go to the game.

But the number 1 reason they will not trade Nash is simple. The All Star game is in Columbus in 2013. Rick Nash will be the Captain of one of the teams and will be representing CBJ.

CBJ has lost enough money. Sure they want to get better but they also still want to sell regular season tickets, jersey's and hype for the All star game. This doesn't get done with R.J. Umberger. It get's done using Rck Nash's name.
