No, the Blackhawks aren’t looking for a goalie

Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman has been on the search for defense with no avail and after getting Brendan Morrison he feels set at forward. With the team mired in a five-game losing streak, however, the team’s troubles in goal have been exposed and some think they need to make a trade.

Bowman, however, disagrees with that and tells Tracey Myers of CSNChicago.com that they’re not looking for a replacement for either Corey Crawford or Ray Emery.

No, Bowman is not looking for a goaltender. While he admits the Blackhawks’ netminders could be better – Corey Crawford was pulled after allowing five on Thursday – he’s confident that they’ll rebound. He’s also not willing to make drastic changes.

Seeing borderline playoff contenders and non-contenders alike pouring goals in like crazy can make anyone start to worry. Everyone goes through slumps though, just not usually at the same time.

In the case of Crawford and Emery they’ve both had a rough go of things recently and unless things stay bad for the next few weeks, there’s no reason to make a panic move.

I hear the Hawks want Ryan Miller?

I hear you’d sell him on the street corner if you thought you could get a good rate. The ‘Hawks want to IMPROVE their goaltending. That pretty much crosses Miller out as a candidate.

Crawford is unleashing a new style of goaltending. You can’t move him now. Move over, “butterfly”! Make room for “upside-down turtle”! Yea! See, the upside-down turtle is when Crow falls over (this happens often) and then flails around like, yep, an upside-down turtle. Refer to Randy trying to get up in a snowsuit during “A Christmas Story” for further examples.

Nice, new contract after great first season, combined with the inevitable sophomore jinx means problems for BHawks w/Crawford in the twine! Happens all the time.

Bowman isn’t looking for a goaltender because there are none available. What Chicago needs is one more D-man to play on the 2nd or 3rd pairing to give the netminder some damn help. Pine-riders like Scott, O’Donnell and Lepisto aren’t doing the ‘Hawks any friggin’ good, not to mention the more-often-than-not brain farts by Keith and Leddy.

Chicago needs to do something to catch the Wings

It would be nice to be more than 4-deep at D. That may help a little.
