You can substitute “complaining” for “livid” and my statement is just as true.

If it really was that disturbing of a trend, if it really was a conscious trend against Vancouver, then that hook on Stalberg wouldn’t have been just a penalty–it would have been a penalty shot (the latter I would have disagreed with)

But it happens. They let them play for the most part. And it was a great game.

The Canucks got 2 points, but the Hawks also earned a loser point. The better team won, but the poor officiating gave the Hawks an extra point in the standings. This could come back in the playoffs when seeding is determined, so as far as things evening out over the season, it still could impact home ice advantage in the playoffs. Okay, a bit of a stretch, but still… Giving away loser points to rivals is generally not a good idea.

The Hawks probably deserved a point out of this game based on their play, but they didn’t deserve either of those powerplays, and were certainly did not play the squeeky clean game you make them out to have played.

And to call the reffing in the game atrocious? Really? I’ve seen games called 100x worse. Like I said before, the game for the most part was played very clean, and the refs let them play.

Not sure if you could say the ice was slanted in any direction last night. Looked pretty even to me. Even if it was slanted against the Canucks, that non-call on Viktor Stalberg’s breakaway tilted it right back into the Canucks favor. So like i said earlier, these things tend to even themselves out. Quit looking at it from just the Canuck fanboy perspective.

No ones calling consipiracy here, there’s a number of different theory’s about why this is happening, (reputation from years past, coaches telling their players to avoid giving the #1 PP opportunities …and so on) but to pretend it’s normal and its childish to bring it up is kinda silly.

I do gotta say tho… there’s not a ref on the planet that would have called a penalty shot on that “slash”.

I’ll take the win, but saying I shouldn’t complain about the reffing is nonsense. It was atrocious. The Canucks won the game despite the ice being slanted against them, and on home ice no less (and the 2nd game in a row versus the Hawks with no PP opportunities).

Complain all you want about the Stalberg slash — it would have been a soft call, so I am surprised they didn’t call it… I doubt it would have gone to OT had the Canucks been given a power play at any point during regulation, let alone with 5 min to go. The Hawks should be grateful for the single point and move on. Hawks fans complaining about the reffing is laughable.

Yes, clipping is under the magnifying glass, but that call was purely on Ballard’s reputation to throw hip checks. The ref obviously didn’t see what happened at all on the ice, and made a bad decision. Just because hip checks are being given more scrutiny doesn’t mean that refs can make up things on the ice that didn’t happen… That is not understandable.

Second, on the ensuing power play, the Blackhawks failed to convert. The penalty didn’t lead to a goal and didn’t swing momentum in either direction.

Third, and probably most important, the non-call for slashing on Viktor Stalberg’s breakaway chance MORE than made up for any perceived blown calls that could have went the Canucks’ way. That should have been a penalty shot and would have given the Blackhawks the opportunity to end the game right there. Instead, it’s a non-call and a great scoring opportunity for the Blackhawks was negated. Game plays on.

Fourth, there were only 2 penalties called in the entire game. Both teams, for the most part, played very clean games, and the refs basically just let them play.

Fifth, since Marchand low-bridged Salo, low hits at the legs are now the new hit to the head. With all the concussion problems going around the league, I’m sure the NHL has upped enforcement of these hits. I’m not saying that that hit was deserving of a penalty, I’m just saying I’m sure you can understand why it was called.

So in the grand scheme of things, this insignificant penalty played NO part in deciding the outcome of this game. Take the W and shut up.
